It’s no secret that CHIKARA keeps getting bigger and bigger. 2005, it was shows in the ECW Arena. 2006, the addition of the Campeonatos de Parejas. 2007, running outside of Pennsylvania for the first time and the beginning of the CHIKARA Podcast-a-Go-Go. 2008, stepping off of the east coast states for the first time for the Midwest tour, along with the biggest tournament in wrestling history. 2009 saw attendance records broken, shows in Japan, and incredible growth both in the company and reaching outwards in alliances with Big Japan and Dragon Gate USA.

What does 2010 hold in store? If there’s one thing we know, it’s a schedule that sees nearly national expansion. When we last talked the schedule, it was mostly expansion to familiar areas – a new venue in Reading, a show in March right outside Philadelphia over the Whitman in Jersey, the long-awaited return to Schuylkill County, et cetera. Since then, it’s busted open huge, and with almost half of 2010’s schedule announced, the plans are quite interesting. Traditionally, after King of Trios comes Aniversario, and this year’s mimics 2008’s shows as they’re not going to take place inside of the confines of Pennsylvania. “Aniversario Zehn” sees CHIKARA make its return to Massachusetts and the Nashua area for the first time since this past September’s shows on May 22nd. The next day will see CHIKARA make its debut in North Jersey, a quick shuttle ride from New York City, as the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ presents “Aniversario Elf”. The month after that sees the CHIKARA debut in Michigan, as the city of Taylor gets the awesomely named “We Must Eat Michigan’s Brain”. It’ll be interesting to see if that gets followed up with a Sunday show as the CHIKaravan brings its way back to Pennsylvania, and if there’s an announcement of such a show, we’ll be sure to let you know!

Now for some site news. Please check out our CHIKARA Fans Wiki, a work-in-progress that you can assist with! Check out our message board for more information on it, but feel free to dive right in and check it out.

Sorry for the lack of updates up here as of late…we’ve been incredibly busy working on a new project that we hope to roll out within the next day or two. I think it’ll deliver on expectations. You’ll know when it hits! But hey, we’ve got a LOT of CHIKARA news to catch up on…so let’s do that!

First off, the schedule for the first quarter of 2010 has rolled out, and it’s a heavy one! While King of Trios has been confirmed for season nine, it’s gonna be a long road to get there as there are five big events in the first three months of the year that see CHIKARA expand into new territory and revisit some old ones! January 31st sees the year kick off in Philadelphia as CHIKARA presents “A Touch of Class”. Then, the convoy steamrolls through Pennsylvania in February as Reading gets hit with “The Mint Condition” on the 27th, and Schuylkill County gets its first CHIKARA action since Barnesville’s “New Star Navigation” all the way back in 2007 with “A World of Comforting Illusions”. Finally, fret not, all Lehigh Valley fans, as you’ll see the return to Easton on March 20th with “Wit, Verve and a Bit o’ Nerve” which is complimented with CHIKARA’s New Jersey debut the following day as Westville, NJ hosts “Testimony of Evil”. A packed schedule in the first quarter of the year, and we’ll have all updates on those cards as they roll out right here!

However, the biggest news from CHIKARA so far in the off season relates to both the ever-expanding Brüderschaft der Kreuzes and the future of Leonard F. Chikarason. It was announced that Chikarason has been moved to strictly commentary duty, as the election for Director of Fun for 2010 was won by none other than Dieter VonSteigerwalt, a man who the public knows nothing about except for his seeming affiliation with the Brüderschaft. What will 2010 bring under the rule of VonSteigerwalt?

The DVD’s for the 2009 Season Finale events have been released. Head over to Smart Mark Video now to pick up “Throwing Life’s Instructions Away” and “Three-Fisted Tales”.

Hey all,

Some of you may have noticed a recent change on the ol’ message board, as another admin has been added to the ranks in the form of the one and only George. While seemingly a bit out of the blue (considering his big head and how the size of said head has worked against past efforts to gain almighty power), this has actually been in the works for a while.

Those of you who post on the board know that in the last month or so I’ve really stopped following wrestling. The topic discussing all this is on the board if you want to search it out. I still pick up bits and bobs of information but I’ve watched nothing aside from the odd CHIKARA match for a while now. My passions as a fan have just moved on from wrestling.

It’s because of this that I’ve chosen to pass the site over to Smurf and George. They’ve both been fans of CHIKARA longer than I have (George was a fan from the very beginning) and are more than capable of surpassing what goals I had for the site in the future. When I made this website in 2006 around the “Crushing Weight of Mainstream Ignorance” show (back in the stucked.net days, oh yes) I hoped that I could make a site for fans of CHIKARA to just come and chat about stuff, much like CZWFans and the ROH board, and hopefully we’ve succeeded somewhat in that respect. I’m sure it’ll continue in the future and the site will become even better (as the new layout suggests).

I also believe it would be unfair on you guys if I retained my role as a site admin because my contributions to the site in recent months have been nothing but shoddy, so this move is in the best interest of everyone as you get not one, but two admins with a passion for running the website. I’ll probably stick around the board because y’all are alright on there but I’m stepping down from my senior admin duties.

- Dan

Oh, hey! Did you notice things look a little different around here? Hope you like it, because trust us, it was a lot of work. Enough about us, let’s talk CHIKARA…

The sixth annual Torneo Cibernetico is beginning to unfold, and the “incredibles” theme has already made things quite interesting. Only two members have been announced for each squad, but the teams see two of CHIKARA’s top tecnico squads up against one another – Campeon de Parejas Soldier Ant captains a team with “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush, while Fire Ant is the head of a team that sees him alongside Jigsaw. With six more teams set to be split amongst the two squads, it’s going to be quite interesting to see how things unfold.

Meanwhile, the night prior in Easton will see the return of Brad and Chad Baddthe Badd Boys – who made a powerful debut in West Springfield a few weeks back in manhandling Green Ant and Fire Ant. At “An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World”, they see a slightly bigger challenge as The Future is Now representatives Helios and Lince Dorado step up to the Badd Challenge. Points are in play here; who’s gonna walk out one step closer to a shot at The Colony? Find out on October 17th!

Our good buddy Richard Parker is running another bus trip – two, in fact! Check here for info on the trip from New York City to Philly for October’s “Cibernetico Incredible”, and how to land a sweet discount if you choose to take the trip to both the Cibernetico and November’s Dragon Gate USA event. A fun time for all CHIKARA fans; if you’re in the NYC metro area, definitely check out this steal of an offer.

In a blog that may have some foreshadowing towards the upcoming Cibernetico, Player Uno speaks out and sends a message to his teammate, reminding him that Uno is the one that made him who he is.

The 180th episode of CHIKARA’s Podcast-a-Go-Go sees clips from this year’s Rey de Voladores tournament that took place over King of Trios weekend in March. Check out both first round matches!

Announced on the Big Japan Pro-Wrestling website and confirmed by PuroLove.com, CHIKARA wrestlers will be participating on a small BJW show prior to the main CHIKARA/BJW shows. The show will take place on June 9th with a full match listing below. The Colony, Chuck Taylor and UltraMantis Black will all be in action. Fire and Soldier will be in a tag team match against Global Gauntlet competitor Shinya Ishikawa (known for his forearms of doom!) and Shinobu, a high-flying wrestler who has wrestled in numerous independents all across Japan as well as Dragon Gate. Finally, Chuck Taylor will have a singles match with Yuji Okabayashi, who competed in the Global Gauntlet last year.

A few site updates have been made over the last few days. If you check the profiles you should notice more and more moves pictures being added. Also being archived are blogs from the CHIKARA website.

hydraredwood

The second match for the “Aniversario Yin” event in Easton has been added, and it will bring together one of the smallest men on the roster and quite clearly the biggest man on the roster, as Roughnecks member Grizzly Redwood will look to chop down the hulking tree of a monster that is Hydra. Redwood has had mixed fortunes in singles wrestling since he first landed in CHIKARA, defeating Create-A-Wrestler but losing to Hallowicked, whereas Hydra’s last singles match back in December saw him overcome former friend UltraMantis Black. Brodie Lee and Eddie Kingston will NOT want to see their team-mate fall to Hydra, but Hydra will be doing his very best to hurl a spanner into the works.

CHIKARA’s official website has confirmed the shows in Japan in June. What this means for Young Lions Cup VII isn’t known. The first show will be taking place on June 12th at THE ICE RIBBON ARENA~! in Saitama, Japan, and then the next night they will be running in Shinkiba, Tokyo. Both shows will be put on in cooperation with Big Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Updates have been made to the CHIKARA roster page, and the changes have been noted on our own roster page. After his non-appearances at this past weekend’s shows, Mitch Ryder has been removed from the regular roster and moving the the Alumni page. Likewise for Escorpion Egipcio, who was kicked to the curb by the Osirian Portal.

2 Cold Scorpio and The Young Bucks have been added to the DGUSA debut card on July 25th.

As CHIKARA’s 2008 season wraps up, matches are steadily being added to the Season Finale weekend. Firstly, the Philadelphia card will see Larry Sweeney get his wish as he will finally be able to team with his former enemy Claudio Castagnoli to battle his former allies, the Fabulous Two of Buck Hawke and Mitch Ryder. With their past issues apparently resolved and replaced by wonderful hand-crafted t-shirts, Sweeney and Claudio will aim to both form a great championship tag team and finish things with Hawke and Ryder.

Also, the main event for the Easton card has been confirmed, as the CHIKARA Sekigun will battle the UnStable in trios action. The winner of the 2008 Torneo Cibernetico, Jimmy Olsen, will captain his team with Lince Dorado and Helios to take on the Young Lions Cup Champion Vin Gerard, STIGMA and Colin Delaney. With Jimmy’s sights set firmly on both the Young Lions Cup and revenge on his former tag team partner Colin, this match could be crucial in settling a number of scores down the line.

Finally, in site news, almost every page is up, with more features to be added very shortly. Included in recent updates are the most recent roster additions, Frightmare and Escorpion Egipcio.
