Preshow Notes: Strong crowd today of around 300-325, rolling on from the last two 200+ attended shows in Nashua and Easton. The Arena has a fresh new paintjob outside that’s almost completed that you can see here. Show started a bit late, uncharacteristic for CHIKARA.

1. El Hijo del Ice Cream & Ice Cream Jr. [Los Ice Creams] vs. Dasher Hatfield & Sugar Dunkerton [The Throwbacks]: The first of a few surprise matches today, we see Los Ice Creams making their CHIKARA return after a few months off. Also, Dasher and Sugar have gotten their official name – The Throwbacks! At one point, Sugar threatened to “Bobby Knight” one of the Ice Creams, which may be the best threat made in CHIKARA history. The Throwbacks get the win with the “Grand Slam Dunk”, a Grand Slam from Dasher followed with a top rope elbow drop from Big Sugar.

2. Vin Gerard vs. Ryuichi Kawakami: Vin is replacing Eddie Kingston in this match, who is out with a severely broken nose. Surprisingly, Gerard gets the win over the young Kawakami, overcoming his strength to take the big guy down with an STF. Good match.

3. Sara del Rey & La Malcriada vs. Daizee Haze & Bullfight Sora: Big Japan referee and CHIKARA Fans’ favorite Nikkan Lee is the referee for this matchup. Daizee and Bullfight Sora get the win via excesivo castigo due to Sara’s frustrations getting the best of her. Ridiculous piledriver on Sora, then Sara pulled her up from a pin, gave her another one after a big boot and a Royal Butterfly suplex.

4. Claudio Castagnoli vs. Sal Rinauro: Sal propped himself up onto Bryce’s shoulders to play a chicken Test of Strength against Claudio. Sal submits to the Giant Swing in another strong showing for Rinauro. Who would’ve thought he’d be such a good fit for CHIKARA?

5. UltraMantis Black, Chuck Taylor & STIGMA vs. Crossbones, Icarus & Colin Delaney: Apparently the main event wasn’t the only Incredibles tag match, as the rudos get one of their own in this trios showdown! Very strange happenings in this match. Vokoder came out with Mantis’ staff, Chikarason came out with a microphone and kicked him out of the building. Just when that happened, the lights went out and two BDK guys appeared in the audience. Mantis ran off and left. Crossbones, Icarus and Colin get the win via countout after Mantis’ escape. STIGMA went for the tombstone piledriver but Icarus reversed it into a prawn hold. While he had the pin, it hit at the same time as the countout so, in theory, they got two wins. Good for them!

6. Ophidian & Amasis [The Osirian Portal] vs. Brodie Lee & Grizzly Redwood [The Roughnecks]: The Portal are working very strongly tecnico tonight, with new music, gear and Amasis actually slapping hands with the fans. A lot of dissent between the Roughnecks tonight, more than usual. Brodie accidentally hit Grizz with a big boot. The Osirian Portal get their third point after an Osirian Sacrament on Grizzly. Brodie laid out Grizz with another boot after the match, laying him out for over five minutes.

7. Torneo Cibernetico: Mike Quackenbush, Hallowicked, Player Uno, Nick Jackson, Carpenter Ant, Lince Dorado, Cheech Hernandez & Soldier Ant (captain) vs. Fire Ant (captain), Jigsaw, Matt Jackson, Player Dos, K.C. “Cloudy” Day, Frightmare, Green Ant & Helios: Early opinions on this match tend to focus on Frightmare and his awesomeness. However, his team fall behind first as Nick Jackson pins Green Ant in 15:58 after countering a La Magistral cradle. Hallowicked increased Soldier’s advantage in 20 minutes, eliminating Cloudy with a big boot, but five minutes later Player Dos continued his winning ways over Player Uno, pinning him with the frog splash. Frightmare eliminated Cheech Hernandez in 32:43 with the moonsault double knee drop. Mike Quackenbush pinned Matt Jackson at 36:53 with the QD3, Player Dos pinned Nick Jackson at 39:15 with an inside cradle, then Carpenter Ant used a Burning Hammer at 40:16 to send Frightmare to the showers. Lince Dorado forced his TFIN buddy Jigsaw to submit to the CHIKARA Special and he then did the double, eliminating Player Dos in 43:02. Helios fell to Hallowicked’s super fisherman buster at 46:18, leaving it at 5 vs. 1.

Today sees an addition to the Philadelphia season finale “Three-Fisted Tales”, as Helios steps into the ring with HUSTLE superstar Yujiro Kushida. Kushida, as many may know, is a lucha-oriented flyer with incredible athletic skills. He’ll be looking to use his mix of strength and speed to knock Helios down a peg and give him only his second singles loss in CHIKARA in his two year career (the first against Incognito in the finals of the 2008 Rey de Voladores tournament). While it may not read like it at first, this is a huge matchup and a big chance for both men to prove something to the other’s home promotion.

In other news, it’s official that Eddie Kingston is out for this weekend’s “Cibernetico Incredible” event in Philly, where he was scheduled to take on Big Japan’s Ryuichi Kawakami. Kingston was on the receiving end of some hellacious blows from Sami Callihan this past weekend at CZW’s “Severed Ties”, which left him with a horribly broken nose. CHIKARA reported on Twitter that King is headed under the knife to repair the injury, and as such, will miss out on the much anticipated matchup this weekend with Kawakami. A replacement will be selected for that match, which may or may not be announced ahead of time; King’s status for the November events is still unknown.

Also, some small news for that card: the seventh and final matchup for the event is going to be kept secret by the CHIKARA office until it happens. You’ll be able to see what it is if you hop on this very site on Sunday for our live results!

We apologize once again for being incredibly late with this update; things have been going on behind the scenes with this site, so that’s sort of taken priority. However, we’re back today to play catch-up once again. Let’s dive right in!

“An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” ~ October 17, 2009 in Easton, PA

The four-way elimination tag we talked up last week has been filled out with two more teams looking to build up points for title contention. Dasher Hatfield and his new partner Sugar Dunkerton are going to get a prime opportunity to get a feel for one another on a huge stage, as they could launch from zero to three points in the first time they’ve teamed together. While the likelihood of this is slim, stranger things have happened in CHIKARA. Meanwhile, the fourth team represents F.I.S.T. – while the group already has three points, Gran Akuma being sidelined indefinitely has led to Icarus and Chuck Taylor putting their names out there for contention. This is the same duo that lost the titles for F.I.S.T. the last time Gran Akuma was out for an extended injury, so while they’ve been successful in the past, they’ve been known to blow it on the big stage. Let’s see how they do in Easton!

It’s incredibly rare that we get three title matches on any one card in wrestling (well, aside from the WWE, but having a hundred belts diminishes the significance of such an event), but Easton is going to get that honor in October as Mike Quackenbush defends his NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship against Sal Rinauro. Rinauro was incredibly cocky in making the claim in Nashua for Smart Mark’s cameras that he was going to come to CHIKARA, take Quackenbush’s title and run CHIKARA his way. Quack never backs down from a challenge, and as such, we’ve got this matchup!

“Cibernetico Incredible” ~ October 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

The batting order for this year’s Torneo Cibernetico has been determined by team captains Fire Ant and Soldier Ant, and the opening go around the rotation sees some interesting matchups. Starting off the match will be Fire and Mike Quackenbush, who have not been opposite each other in the ring since May of 2007 when Quack put Fire Ant away in a trios matchup with a top rope Tiger Driver. After that will be Hallowicked and Jigsaw, a storied competitive rivalry between two of the top students that dates back many years. There’s also a chance that an early tag out will also see a very early matchup between both members of the Super Smash Bros. and the Young Bucks, and another chance of a matchup like that later on in the first rotation with Green Ant and Soldier Ant, then again with Soldier and Fire. Not to pull a Gabe Sapolsky here, but this match needs no hype – 16 of the best wrestlers in CHIKARA squaring off to be “el Rey de Torneo Cibernetico!”

Sal Rinauro has another big challenge ahead of him in October, as he’s facing both trainers of the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory – in Philadelphia, he goes one on one with Claudio Castagnoli. There’s a chance that this could be an NWA World Junior title match if Rinauro gets the upset over Quack the night before. Could we potentially see two title changes in one weekend?

“Three-Fisted Tales” ~ November 22, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Another match that needs no hype – the Respect Match between Claudio Castagnoli and Eddie Kingston. The goal of the match is simple: beat your opponent until he tells the world that he respects you. Kingston wrote a very powerful blog claiming why he wanted this match, which essentially provides as a backstory to this match better than we could write in this space. Check it out!

We’ll be back more often with these updates. Promise!

The other day, we made a promise that we’d get everyone caught up on the recent non-Cibernetico related evolutions on October’s cards in Easton and Philadelphia. Have we ever let you down? Don’t mention the failed launch of that new redesign (we’re still coming out with that, by the way, just you wait!), and let’s just go with the popular answer of “never, you love us!” Onward with the matches:

“An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” ~ October 17, 2009 in Easton, PA

While we have what’s likely our main event in the form of the Campeonatos de Parejas defense of The Colony vs. The Roughnecks, the rest of this card has unfolded in quite unique fashion. The most notable additions have seen the Super Smash Bros. competing in singles action, both with quite hefty challenges ahead of them. Young Lions Cup champion Player Dos is going to be defending his title against Incoherence’s crazed mini-demon Frightmare, who has been on quite the tear in singles competition this year. He’ll be looking to prove that his first round bounce in the YLC tournament back in August was a fluke; he already avenged his loss to Brendan Michael Thomas, and taking the cup away from the winner of said tournament would only solidify how much of a fluke that was. Meanwhile, Player Uno has been attempting to prove that he’s not playing games anymore, and has targeted the cream of the crop in CHIKARA, Claudio Castagnoli, to prove that he’s serious. This is arguably Uno’s biggest singles bout to date in CHIKARA, and while he’s had some big singles wins over top Wrestle Factory talent in the past, nothing’s been quite as big as the co-head trainer.

Also on this show, we’re going to see a singles match that’s nearly two years in the making. Jigsaw was set to take on Gran Akuma in Easton in October, a continuation of their rivalry that’s brewed to a head in 2009. However, Akuma’s injury that kept him off of the September shows was re-aggravated while on the comeback trail. When word hit the CHIKARA locker room, a certain rudo that Jigsaw has a lot of past with stepped up to the plate – STIGMA. These two have a long history with one another, dating back to their days as the much beloved ShaneSaw team. They had their problems with one another in late 2007, and since that time, Jigsaw left and returned while the former Shane Storm turned his back on the fans and joined Vin Gerard’s UnStable. These two have a lot of unsettled beef with one another, and it’s long overdue that they step in the ring to do battle one on one.

The hunt for three points never quite ends, and while it’s been some time since UltraMantis Black and Crossbones have made an attempt to add on to the one point that they gained in Japan back in June against Shadow WX and Yuichi Taniguchi, the original Order of the Neo-Solar Temple are back on the ball and looking to shoot to the top. Their opponents on October 17th, the newest Colony duo of Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Will the new hormigas be able to get the ball rolling towards a title shot against their fellow Colony members, or are Mantis and Bones going to establish dominance while Delirious is off in Japan?

“Cibernetico Incredible” ~ October 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Many expected this to be one of the big title matches coming up towards the end of the year, and while this may have a set of champions involved if Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood can snatch the belts from The Colony the night prior, this match between two rudo duos will not be for the Campeonatos de Parejas. No matter what the results of the defense is in Easton, The Osirian Portal are looking to get the ball rolling towards getting the gold back after dropping the belts in Nashua last month, and there’d be no better way to start that off than to get their first point against the Roughnecks.

Two more duos are also looking to grab up some valuable points this weekend, and they’re both quite new to the CHIKARA scene. The Badd Boys have have been flirting with the company for a while – unexpectedly showing up on one of the Big Japan dojo events hosted while CHIKARA was overseas in June – and finally made their debut in West Springfield last month when they put away Fire Ant and Green Ant. This time, the challenge is a bit different; the red hot Dasher Hatfield has been knocking wins out of the park since his debut. His search for a partner ended when a young man by the name of Sugar Dunkerton put his name out there to help Dasher on his quest for three points. It’ll be interesting to see what Dunkerton brings to the table in Philly, as this will be his CHIKARA debut.

One small change to a previously announced match – Atsuko Emoto has been pulled from the ladies’ tag in Philly and replaced with Bullfight Sora, a Big Japan women’s wrestler who has incredible similarities to Emoto. Not much to say, really.

Oh, hey! Did you notice things look a little different around here? Hope you like it, because trust us, it was a lot of work. Enough about us, let’s talk CHIKARA…

The sixth annual Torneo Cibernetico is beginning to unfold, and the “incredibles” theme has already made things quite interesting. Only two members have been announced for each squad, but the teams see two of CHIKARA’s top tecnico squads up against one another – Campeon de Parejas Soldier Ant captains a team with “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush, while Fire Ant is the head of a team that sees him alongside Jigsaw. With six more teams set to be split amongst the two squads, it’s going to be quite interesting to see how things unfold.

Meanwhile, the night prior in Easton will see the return of Brad and Chad Baddthe Badd Boys – who made a powerful debut in West Springfield a few weeks back in manhandling Green Ant and Fire Ant. At “An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World”, they see a slightly bigger challenge as The Future is Now representatives Helios and Lince Dorado step up to the Badd Challenge. Points are in play here; who’s gonna walk out one step closer to a shot at The Colony? Find out on October 17th!

Our good buddy Richard Parker is running another bus trip – two, in fact! Check here for info on the trip from New York City to Philly for October’s “Cibernetico Incredible”, and how to land a sweet discount if you choose to take the trip to both the Cibernetico and November’s Dragon Gate USA event. A fun time for all CHIKARA fans; if you’re in the NYC metro area, definitely check out this steal of an offer.

In a blog that may have some foreshadowing towards the upcoming Cibernetico, Player Uno speaks out and sends a message to his teammate, reminding him that Uno is the one that made him who he is.

The 180th episode of CHIKARA’s Podcast-a-Go-Go sees clips from this year’s Rey de Voladores tournament that took place over King of Trios weekend in March. Check out both first round matches!

The cry for competition has been answered – both Daizee Haze and Sara del Rey have made recent statements via CHIKARAPro.com blogs about how they feel they have been slighted for being a step above everyone else in CHIKARA. In response, CHIKARA officials called up their friends at Big Japan, and asked them for some recommendations for some ladies from Japan that can bring the level of competition that Haze and Del Rey have demanded. Our match, set for “Cibernetico Incredible” on October 18th, is Sara and CHIKARA alum La Malcriada (last seen way back at the final night of King of Trios 2007) squaring off against Daizee Haze and NEO’s Atsuko Emoto. Emoto may be better known to some diehard Joshi followers as “Bullfight Sora”, WAVE’s deadly bovine character. This match should be incredibly exciting for fans of women’s wrestling, as it’s a chance for two lesser known Japanese talents to break out in the States.

UltraMantis Black blogs about the recent happenings involving the Eye of Tyr, and the future of the Neo-Solar Temple’s relations with both Delirious and Crossbones.

Well! We take a couple of days off after the exhausting New England weekend, and the CHIKARA offices don’t cut us any slack. This update alone will hype up two new matches, a blog, a new Podcast and some more little nuggets of info. Let’s not waste time; here come the updates!

First off – new champs! The Colony have won the Campeonatos de Parejas in Nashua on Sunday, defeating the Osirian Portal in two straight falls. Wasting no time, their first defense has been signed and it’s the main event of Easton’s “An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” as Fire Ant and Soldier Ant square off against the only currently healthy duo with three points, The Roughnecks of Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood. While the Roughnecks have likely been preparing for three falls with the Portal, the ants are looking to prove that they’re not going to be one-and-done like the last tecnico team to hold the belts, the Super Smash Bros. Rumor is that, by the time you read this, the Roughnecks will have some words for the Colony in a Podcast Special Update. We’ll have that video for you here tomorrow!

While Brodie and the Grizz are going to be prepping for three falls of action in Easton, their fellow Roughneck Eddie Kingston is getting himself ready for the following night, where he’ll be taking on Big Japan’s newest rookie sensation Ryuichi Kawakami! Making his debut in December of 2008, Kawakami, a trainee of current Big Japan tag champ (and CHIKARA alum) Daisuke Sekimoto, brings a lot to the table despite being relatively new to the ring. A hype video displaying his sheer power and strength is right on the other side of this link – check it out now.

Sara del Rey has written a very interesting blog here, voicing her recent frustrations with the competition she’s been given recently. Daizee Haze recently voiced similar complaints, so perhaps something is in store for these two down the road.

The latest edition of the Podcast-a-Go-Go, featuring King of Trios 2009 action such as the Soul Touchaz vs. the UnStable and the F1RST Family vs. F.I.S.T., can be seen here

See you tomorrow with more on the latest in CHIKARA!
