Just a few days ago, UltraMantis Black wrote a blog where he mentioned that him and his cronies in the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple were all set to face top competition come January’s “A Touch of Class”, and that’s what was going to prevent them from squaring off with any Brüderschaft der Kreuzes members. This was promised to be some of the stiffest competition that the Temple had ever seen, a match that was going to truly test their limits and put them in prime condition for King of Trios, whether they walked out on top or were humbled in defeat.

When we fired up the ol’ CHIKARA Fans computers today and saw the match…needless to say, we were a bit underwhelmed by the promise that Mantis had made. The return of Pelle Primeau for the first time since Young Lions Cup VI and the concussions that put him out of wrestling soon after? Surely something to be excited about. The return of Grizzly Redwood after Brodie Lee’s big boot took him out last October? Fun times. The debut of “Right Leg” Andy Ridge, who is supposed to be one of the ROH Academy’s top students in recent years? Cool! But to say this trio is one of the strongest teams that the independent scene could muster up to face the Neo-Solar Temple? A ridiculous claim. It’s clear to us that UltraMantis Black is running scared from the Brüderschaft, and it’s only a matter of time until they catch up to him.

Two huge matches were announced in the past 24 hours that are huge ways to wrap up the conclusion to Season Eight of CHIKARA action. First up in Easton, Mike Quackenbush, Claudio Castagnoli and Jorge “Skayde” Rivera – the trio of CHIKARA maestros that have had hands in the training of every CHIKARA Wrestle Factory alum – are going to take on The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple’s UltraMantis Black, Crossbones and Delirious. The Temple were given this match as punishment for the huge headache that they’ve caused Leonard F. Chikarason all year, and this form of payback may be the most painful for the rudos as they’re encountering a true dream team. If they’re to pull off the huge upset victory, it would be an achievement the likes of which have never been predicted in CHIKARA in the past.

The next day in Philadelphia at “Three-Fisted Tales”, it’s a title match that co-main-evented the first event of the 2009 CHIKARA calendar year: The Colony, on the champion side this time, defend the Campeonatos de Parejas against The Osirian Portal. This is the third title match between these two this season, and the first two were memorable encounters that saw both teams take each other to the limit. It’ll be no different this time around; will the Portal regain the gold that was taken from them in Nashua back in September, or can the Colony take two of three in both the match and the series?

Also noteworthy: Sara del Rey has written a blog here, clearly outlining her frustrations with the current women’s division in CHIKARA. 2009 was supposed to be a year where she was promised the top female talent from around the world, but she steamrolled over everyone CHIKARA threw her way and has laid out an open challenge for season finale weekend. Who’s going to step up and accept? We’ll find out soon, hopefully.

The other day, we made a promise that we’d get everyone caught up on the recent non-Cibernetico related evolutions on October’s cards in Easton and Philadelphia. Have we ever let you down? Don’t mention the failed launch of that new redesign (we’re still coming out with that, by the way, just you wait!), and let’s just go with the popular answer of “never, you love us!” Onward with the matches:

“An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” ~ October 17, 2009 in Easton, PA

While we have what’s likely our main event in the form of the Campeonatos de Parejas defense of The Colony vs. The Roughnecks, the rest of this card has unfolded in quite unique fashion. The most notable additions have seen the Super Smash Bros. competing in singles action, both with quite hefty challenges ahead of them. Young Lions Cup champion Player Dos is going to be defending his title against Incoherence’s crazed mini-demon Frightmare, who has been on quite the tear in singles competition this year. He’ll be looking to prove that his first round bounce in the YLC tournament back in August was a fluke; he already avenged his loss to Brendan Michael Thomas, and taking the cup away from the winner of said tournament would only solidify how much of a fluke that was. Meanwhile, Player Uno has been attempting to prove that he’s not playing games anymore, and has targeted the cream of the crop in CHIKARA, Claudio Castagnoli, to prove that he’s serious. This is arguably Uno’s biggest singles bout to date in CHIKARA, and while he’s had some big singles wins over top Wrestle Factory talent in the past, nothing’s been quite as big as the co-head trainer.

Also on this show, we’re going to see a singles match that’s nearly two years in the making. Jigsaw was set to take on Gran Akuma in Easton in October, a continuation of their rivalry that’s brewed to a head in 2009. However, Akuma’s injury that kept him off of the September shows was re-aggravated while on the comeback trail. When word hit the CHIKARA locker room, a certain rudo that Jigsaw has a lot of past with stepped up to the plate – STIGMA. These two have a long history with one another, dating back to their days as the much beloved ShaneSaw team. They had their problems with one another in late 2007, and since that time, Jigsaw left and returned while the former Shane Storm turned his back on the fans and joined Vin Gerard’s UnStable. These two have a lot of unsettled beef with one another, and it’s long overdue that they step in the ring to do battle one on one.

The hunt for three points never quite ends, and while it’s been some time since UltraMantis Black and Crossbones have made an attempt to add on to the one point that they gained in Japan back in June against Shadow WX and Yuichi Taniguchi, the original Order of the Neo-Solar Temple are back on the ball and looking to shoot to the top. Their opponents on October 17th, the newest Colony duo of Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Will the new hormigas be able to get the ball rolling towards a title shot against their fellow Colony members, or are Mantis and Bones going to establish dominance while Delirious is off in Japan?

“Cibernetico Incredible” ~ October 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Many expected this to be one of the big title matches coming up towards the end of the year, and while this may have a set of champions involved if Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood can snatch the belts from The Colony the night prior, this match between two rudo duos will not be for the Campeonatos de Parejas. No matter what the results of the defense is in Easton, The Osirian Portal are looking to get the ball rolling towards getting the gold back after dropping the belts in Nashua last month, and there’d be no better way to start that off than to get their first point against the Roughnecks.

Two more duos are also looking to grab up some valuable points this weekend, and they’re both quite new to the CHIKARA scene. The Badd Boys have have been flirting with the company for a while – unexpectedly showing up on one of the Big Japan dojo events hosted while CHIKARA was overseas in June – and finally made their debut in West Springfield last month when they put away Fire Ant and Green Ant. This time, the challenge is a bit different; the red hot Dasher Hatfield has been knocking wins out of the park since his debut. His search for a partner ended when a young man by the name of Sugar Dunkerton put his name out there to help Dasher on his quest for three points. It’ll be interesting to see what Dunkerton brings to the table in Philly, as this will be his CHIKARA debut.

One small change to a previously announced match – Atsuko Emoto has been pulled from the ladies’ tag in Philly and replaced with Bullfight Sora, a Big Japan women’s wrestler who has incredible similarities to Emoto. Not much to say, really.

In CHIKARA, tradition is normally that the big grudge matches are held off for the end of the season. However, this year has been full of surprises, and the latest one is something the fans have been begging to see for quite a while as a month earlier than some may have expected – Jigsaw and Gran Akuma are set to do battle in singles action in Easton. The two men have had sort of a competitive rivalry that’s gotten a bit personal in recent months, dating back to April’s “The Bobliographon” event, where Akuma pinned Jig with a Rubik’s Cube in a big atomico main event. It happened again a month later in Easton at the end of a trios match between F.I.S.T. and Jigsaw/Lince Dorado/Helios, this time with the Yoshi Tonic.

From there, things took a turn for the personal. The two saw each other across the ring a few months later at Dragon Gate USA’s “Open the Historic Gate” show; Jig ended up getting the win this time over Akuma’s teammate Icarus. However, after the match, Akuma took his frustrations out on a downed Mike Quackenbush, who was receiving a beating from Dragon Gate’s YAMATO after Quack laid out a challenge to the DG locker room. Six days later, Icarus and Akuma squared off with Quack and Jigsaw at “Never Kneel at the Altar of Conformity” in Reading; F.I.S.T. reigned supreme that night in one of the best and most heated matches on the show. Most recently, at this past weekend’s “Open the Untouchable Gate” DGUSA event, Jigsaw and Akuma saw themselves once again across the ring from one another in tag action, with Quackenbush on Jig’s side and YAMATO on Akuma’s. While the tecnicos got the win after YAMATO accidentally speared Akuma, leaving him open for Quackenbush, it was Jigsaw who was laid out earlier in the match as the evil duo took out his knee.

Needless to say, this singles confrontation coming up at “An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” has a lot on the line. What was once a competitive rivalry between two men has become a battle of personal pride between two warriors. A victory in singles competition for either man holds a lot of value in this war between the two, and if Akuma has his way, he might just aim for more than a victory; he may very well try to put Jigsaw on the sidelines for good.

Speaking of wars, Crossbones has spoken out on his feelings on the apparent war that is coming for Ultramantis Black. He posted a blog today on the CHIKARAPro.com site, which you can read here.

The latest addition to the upcoming July 31st card in Reading is arguably the biggest match on the card yet and pits two of CHIKARA’s longest-running and popular factions against each other, as Fire Ant, Soldier Ant and Green Ant of The Colony will take on The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple’s UltraMantis Black, Delirious and Crossbones. This comes hot on the heels of CHIKARA’s trip to Japan, where in the main event of the June 13th show in Shin-kiba 1st Ring, Tokyo it was Fire Ant scoring a direct pin over UltraMantis with the Beach Break. These two teams have clashed numerous times in the past in their various incarnations, but considering Mantis’ appreciation for Japan and the embarassment he suffered in Tokyo this could be one of the more heated. Not only that, but the Order are on somewhat of a roll in the United States since the addition of Delirious to the group after they overcame the Saturday Night Slam Masters at “Aniversario Yang”.

This match will also mark the “official” debut on US soil for Green Ant, who was in action on the Japan shows and actually went undefeated in his 3 “CHIKARA in Japan” matches. Whether that will transfer back to the United States remains to be seen. The involvement of three of the ants also raises the question of whether the new “Carpenter Ant” will be in Reading to support his fellow hormigas.

Claudio Castagnoli has a new promo up where he addresses the recent comments expressed by Eddie Kingston.

UltraMantis Black has just posted a new blog on the CHIKARA website explaining quite why he chose to kidnap and warp Delirious using the Eye of Tyr:

5/27/2009: I told all of the doubters and nay-sayers in CHIKARA that I would have my comeuppance and, true to my every word, I so did! You see, the reasoning was quite simple. I had successfully disposed of every traitor that had ever double-crossed myself or The Order. Except for one man – Hallowicked. A man I once called “friend.” My confidant, my unquestioning soldier in the war on CHIKARA. But also, the man who chose to serve his own foolish self-interests by turning his back on me. At the Tag World Grand Prix 2006, while I was sidelined by injury, you put your fate in the hands of chance, and a new partner was “randomly” appointed you. Did you ever look back, Hallowicked? Did you ever think that it was you that destroyed the Dark Breed and gave birth to the Order of the Neo Solar Temple with your insolence? Hallowicked, you, more than any other near-mortal should have known that I never forgive and I never, ever forget.

Of course, revenge is a complex game, and I was forced to do many unsavory things and to break bread with some despicable beings – but it has all been worth it. I knew well the legend of the mysterious Eye of Tyr, and I knew I would have to do whatever it took to wield it’s mystical properties. Storm, Hydra, Cube, Saget, Hero – all just pawns. I never cared what needed to be bought, traded or stolen, or whose back I needed to step on. It took years for all the pieces to align correctly on the board. But I never forgot your betrayal, Hallowicked. And when Dr. Cube was willing to trade me for the name of the private collector in possession of the fabled Eye, the core of my being trembled with excitement – my patience was finally rewarded!

My time spent skulking in the shadows while Hallowicked and Delirious basked in their championship spotlight, my time spent on underacheivers like Sami Callihan and Pinkie Sanchez, who would never be fit for The Order, all this time was time well spent. Why? Because in biding my time, and waiting for the stars to align, I was at last presented an opportunity to wreck your little family, Hallowicked…just as you had wrecked mine.

Finally, at Aniversario weekend, it all came to pass – the dramatic dénouement! The one, true Unholy Triad coming together at last in the ring. The final transubstanciation of The Order, just as our ancient sacred texts had long predicted – UltraMantis Black, Crossbones, Delirious! What a frightening and painful realization it must have been for you, Hallowicked. To know that your tag team partner, your closest ally, was now in the clutches of the one man fully willing and able to destroy you! The Delirious you once knew is erased, and you have been left with nothing more than that sad little street urchin, Frightmare, as your aide. Ha! How your despair amuses me. I win again!

And now, I alone reign supreme over all of CHIKARA! The Order is in complete control of not only our own destiny, but of the fate of every last human cog in the CHIKARA machine. Fighters of the CHIKARA heed my warning: submit to The Order via your own freewill now, or face harsh retribution later. We will enslave or exterminate every last one of you; there is no other alternative. CHIKARA belongs to me!

No one can stop us!
UMB

A promo has surfaced regarding the upcoming CHIKARA tour of Japan, which can be viewed here. In it, the rudos who will be making the trip – UltraMantis Black, Crossbones, Jagged, Shane Matthews and Chuck Taylor – make clear their desire for revenge!

The CHIKARA feature page has also revealed exactly what the upcoming Fan Appreciation Night is all about. Straight from the horse’s mouth, “What’s so special about it, you may ask? Well, every paying customer is going to get a free gift at the show, and for this event, all seats in the house, even front row, are priced at just $15.00!”

Also announced on that page is the next CHIKARA Pod-Per-View, entitled “The Quest For Peace”, which will be available to buy at the end of June!

Two teams looking to start from scratch in the CHIKARA tag scene will clash in Philadelphia, as the Super Smash Bros. of Player Uno and Player Dos will tackle the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple’s UltraMantis Black and Crossbones. The former failed to win a 4-way tag match on the last show in Philadelphia while the Order fell in the 2009 King of Trios tag team gauntlet match. One factor that must be considered is Delirious, who the Order kidnapped last month and no word on his status has been given since. Will Delirious make his presence felt in Philly? And regardless of that, will his Incoherence buddies Hallowicked and Frightmare be looking to gain some vengeance on Mantis and Crossbones for their sneak attack in Philly?

The second team added to the big 12 man King of Trios Tag Team Gauntlet match on the third night of action is none other than Ultramantis Black and Crossbones, representatives of the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple. Their search for a third partner goes on a small break on the third night as the two men attempt to attain their three points necessary for a shot at the Campeonatos de Parejas. While this is Mantis’ first foray into the infamous Tag Gauntlet, Crossbones has had moderate success in the prior two when teaming with Hydra; in 2007 they were just two teams away by the luck of the draw, and in 2008 they were cut short from victory by eventual winners Ax and Smash of Demolition. With the evil Ultramantis Black now at his side, the Order will be looking to steamroll over the competition on their way to three points.

Hydra, Cheech & Cloudy vs. UltraMantis Black, Crossbones & Pinkie Sanchez

A rather unique trios match has concluded the additions to the upcoming Reading card, and it will see the Hydra vs. Order of the Neo-Solar Temple feud rumble on as the mini man monster will team with surfing sensations Cheech & Cloudy to take on UltraMantis Black, Crossbones and their partner, Pinkie Sanchez. Pinkie, who became a semi-regular in 2008, has thus far wrestled strictly on the tecnico side of things, which makes his team with the Order particularly puzzling, and UltraMantis Black’s reaction to this – as seen on a special podcast update – suggests that Pinkie is not a heavy favourite to become a permanent member of the group.
