The newest match to the final card of the CHIKARA season has been announced, and it’s one heck of an Atomico match that should be lots of fun. The ThrowbacksDasher Hatfield and Sugar Dunkerton – team up with Colony representatives Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Their opponents? The UnStable and Brodie Lee. The Big Rig is back on the highway of destruction after eliminating Grizzly Redwood from the CHIKARA roster with one swift boot to the face. Everyone in this match has something to prove to move up the ranks in 2010. We’ll see who walks out on top in 12 days.

It was also announced by CHIKARA that there will be one mystery match unannounced for both season finale cards. Who will be in those matches? Find out first here when we do our live results!

The newest episode of CHIKARA Podcast-a-Go-Go, with clips of The Roughnecks vs. Incoherence and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Shadow Phoenix from “Behind the 8 Ball”, can be watched here.

The other day, we made a promise that we’d get everyone caught up on the recent non-Cibernetico related evolutions on October’s cards in Easton and Philadelphia. Have we ever let you down? Don’t mention the failed launch of that new redesign (we’re still coming out with that, by the way, just you wait!), and let’s just go with the popular answer of “never, you love us!” Onward with the matches:

“An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” ~ October 17, 2009 in Easton, PA

While we have what’s likely our main event in the form of the Campeonatos de Parejas defense of The Colony vs. The Roughnecks, the rest of this card has unfolded in quite unique fashion. The most notable additions have seen the Super Smash Bros. competing in singles action, both with quite hefty challenges ahead of them. Young Lions Cup champion Player Dos is going to be defending his title against Incoherence’s crazed mini-demon Frightmare, who has been on quite the tear in singles competition this year. He’ll be looking to prove that his first round bounce in the YLC tournament back in August was a fluke; he already avenged his loss to Brendan Michael Thomas, and taking the cup away from the winner of said tournament would only solidify how much of a fluke that was. Meanwhile, Player Uno has been attempting to prove that he’s not playing games anymore, and has targeted the cream of the crop in CHIKARA, Claudio Castagnoli, to prove that he’s serious. This is arguably Uno’s biggest singles bout to date in CHIKARA, and while he’s had some big singles wins over top Wrestle Factory talent in the past, nothing’s been quite as big as the co-head trainer.

Also on this show, we’re going to see a singles match that’s nearly two years in the making. Jigsaw was set to take on Gran Akuma in Easton in October, a continuation of their rivalry that’s brewed to a head in 2009. However, Akuma’s injury that kept him off of the September shows was re-aggravated while on the comeback trail. When word hit the CHIKARA locker room, a certain rudo that Jigsaw has a lot of past with stepped up to the plate – STIGMA. These two have a long history with one another, dating back to their days as the much beloved ShaneSaw team. They had their problems with one another in late 2007, and since that time, Jigsaw left and returned while the former Shane Storm turned his back on the fans and joined Vin Gerard’s UnStable. These two have a lot of unsettled beef with one another, and it’s long overdue that they step in the ring to do battle one on one.

The hunt for three points never quite ends, and while it’s been some time since UltraMantis Black and Crossbones have made an attempt to add on to the one point that they gained in Japan back in June against Shadow WX and Yuichi Taniguchi, the original Order of the Neo-Solar Temple are back on the ball and looking to shoot to the top. Their opponents on October 17th, the newest Colony duo of Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Will the new hormigas be able to get the ball rolling towards a title shot against their fellow Colony members, or are Mantis and Bones going to establish dominance while Delirious is off in Japan?

“Cibernetico Incredible” ~ October 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Many expected this to be one of the big title matches coming up towards the end of the year, and while this may have a set of champions involved if Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood can snatch the belts from The Colony the night prior, this match between two rudo duos will not be for the Campeonatos de Parejas. No matter what the results of the defense is in Easton, The Osirian Portal are looking to get the ball rolling towards getting the gold back after dropping the belts in Nashua last month, and there’d be no better way to start that off than to get their first point against the Roughnecks.

Two more duos are also looking to grab up some valuable points this weekend, and they’re both quite new to the CHIKARA scene. The Badd Boys have have been flirting with the company for a while – unexpectedly showing up on one of the Big Japan dojo events hosted while CHIKARA was overseas in June – and finally made their debut in West Springfield last month when they put away Fire Ant and Green Ant. This time, the challenge is a bit different; the red hot Dasher Hatfield has been knocking wins out of the park since his debut. His search for a partner ended when a young man by the name of Sugar Dunkerton put his name out there to help Dasher on his quest for three points. It’ll be interesting to see what Dunkerton brings to the table in Philly, as this will be his CHIKARA debut.

One small change to a previously announced match – Atsuko Emoto has been pulled from the ladies’ tag in Philly and replaced with Bullfight Sora, a Big Japan women’s wrestler who has incredible similarities to Emoto. Not much to say, really.

MainEventMatch

You know the name of tomorrow’s event in West Springfield? Yeah. “Man Makes Plans, and God Laughs”. Well, God’s clearly a regular old Mr. Chuckles this evening because he has chosen to play havoc with this weekend’s cards. It was announced earlier today that Gran Akuma cannot participate due to an injury suffered in training. As a result, the Osirian Portal’s Campeonatos de parejas-related double jeopardy has been halved, as Icarus & Gran Akuma have opted to cash in their 3 points at a later date. This means that there is no longer any ambiguity: Nashua on Sunday will indeed see the rematch from “Revelation X” as the Osirian Portal of Amasis and Ophidian will defend their belts against The Colony’s Fire Ant & Soldier Ant. This marks the ants’ second title shot but their first under standard Campeonatos rules, as their previous match was a one fall contest.

CampeonatosBout

FrightChuck

However, another question comes to mind: What about the West Springfield main event? Well, there’s been some shuffling there too. With Akuma on the shelf, he will be replaced by fellow F.I.S.T. member Chuck Taylor alongside Icarus as they go against Amasis and Ophidian. However, unlike the previous time where Taylor had to replace Akuma, this will not be a tag title contest and will perhaps serve as a sign of things to come for the eventual title match. In addition to that, the singles match in Nashua between Frightmare and Chuck Taylor has been modified, as Icarus will team with Taylor again to face Frightmare and his mentor Hallowicked.

TFIStable

With Chuck now moved into the main event of West Springfield, this leaves an opening in another match on the card, as now Vin Gerard and STIGMA need a third man in their trios match against Lince Dorado, Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen and Mike Quackenbush. With Colin Delaney out of the picture due to his singles match with Dasher Hatfield, there is no natural replacement for Chuck. The mystery man has not been named as of yet as the rudos will be given a partner on the night via the infamous random draw.

We haven’t updated the site in a few days, but the main CHIKARA website was hacked a couple of days ago. The front page redirected to a new website containing a YouTube vide, while every other link was disabled. The video, which can be viewed here, appears to feature the mystery man in white from “Young Lions Cup VII: Night 3″, who states that UltraMantis Black has something that belongs to his family. Mantis must return this thing “or be destroyed”.

Promos from the Young Lions Cup DVDs are up here!

FrightChuck

The trend of singles matches for the upcoming New England weekend is continuing as the latest match added to the Nashua show pits one of CHIKARA’s fastest-rising young lions up against a former Young Lions Cup champion: Incoherence member Frightmare will be wrestling F.I.S.T. member Chuck Taylor. This is perhaps Frightmare’s biggest singles match to date in CHIKARA and it’s probably the best chance for him to pick up a win considering Chuck’s recent luck in big matches, most notably the Aniversario Yang match where he was shaved bald. However, Chuck is no stranger to young, nimble high-flyers considering his past victories over the likes of Ricochet and he’d surely love to stop the rookie in his tracks.

Also announced on the CHIKARA Twitter is that Bryan Danielson will be making one final stop in CHIKARA before heading off to the WWE. “The American Dragon” will be wrestling in Connecticut on September 12 so that means he could be participating on the September 13 show in Nashua. This will be Danielson’s return to CHIKARA after his ace debut at the 2009 King of Trios where he, Dave Taylor and Claudio Castagnoli went to the finals before Chuck Taylor made Danielson submit to the Cross Crab.

Changes are afoot for the September 12 card in West Springfield, as the QuackSaw vs. Incoherence tag match is off. It’s not known quite why this change has been made yet, but considering Mike Quackenbush’s recent return from back surgery and the July match where Icarus damaged it heavily, that could be the reason. However, both members of Incoherence will be in West Springfield, and both will be in singles competition!

ClaudioWicked

The first of two matches added to the card pits one of the, if not the top student from the Chikara Wrestle Factory up against one of the current head trainers at the school, as Hallowicked will face Claudio Castagnoli in a match pitting two of CHIKARA’s tallest wrestlers up against each other. This match comes about in quite the fated fashion, as two years ago these two men were scheduled to wrestle on CHIKARA’s first event in Connecticut, entitled “Showdown in CrisisLand”. That match never ended up taking place, as it was cancelled in favour of an NWA title tournament match between Claudio and Sicodelico, Jr. and now the match will finally occur as a result of another match being cancelled. The match is also interesting if you consider Claudio’s current feud with Eddie Kingston, a man who Hallowicked spent much of 2007 battling in wild brawls. Not only that, but in the past year both Claudio and Wicked have had their issues with “The Big Rig” Brodie Lee. Both men also match up stylistically, as both have shown decent strength (Claudio with his suplexes, Wicked with his Go 2 Sleepy Hollow) but combined that with speed and agility, so it’ll be interesting to see how these two match up. Wicked will be intending to win this to underline his position among the elite of CHIKARA, while Claudio will surely be wanting to prove all the naysayers who doubt that he’s still the CHIKARA ace wrong.

YLCRematch

The second match is a rematch from mere weeks ago, as Frightmare will be intending to avenge his Young Lions Cup loss when he goes up against Brendan Michael Thomas. BMT raised a few eyebrows in his CHIKARA debut by pinning Frightmare, a man who was tipped to go far in the tournament, and the young Incoherence member won’t be happy to let a newcomer get into CHIKARA at his expense. However, BMT knows that many were shocked by his initial win and a second victory here would surely convince everyone that it wasn’t a fluke, earning him a regular spot on the CHIKARA roster.

Carpenter Ant has finally been added to the CHIKARA roster page. Here’s his vitals.

Less of a news day today, moreso a day for random post-show tidbits, website updates, pictures and other nonsense like that. Things went a bit lax on the update front last week, so I’ll mention the matches that were added to next month’s weekend in New England.

ArielSara

CHIKARA’s women’s division has been dominated by two women since mid-2006: Daizee Haze (see below) and Sara Del Rey. Several women have attempted to knock the two off their perches, ranging from Candice LaRae to Sassy Stephie to Rayna Von Tash. None have been successful. The latest in that line of ladies will make her debut over CHIKARA’s weekend in New England, as SHIMMER star Ariel will be looking to send a message to Sara Del Rey in their singles match. Ariel has wrestled – and beaten – some of the best SHIMMER has to offer, including MsChif, Nikki Roxx and Cheerleader Melissa (aka TNA’s Alissa Flash), so she’s going to be anything but a pushover. She also has history with Del Rey, as “The American Angel” viciously assaulted Ariel on SHIMMER Volume 19 following a battle royal before defeating her later in the evening. It’s the Dariel vs. the Royal Butterfly in Nashua!

TagOTecnicos

The night before in West Springfield, the new town is in for quite the treat as Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw will be in tag team action against Incoherence, Hallowicked and Frightmare. On night 3 of the Young Lions Cup Frightmare and his tag team partner Turbo came up short against Quack and Jorge Rivera, but this will be the third high profile occasion where he has come up against his maestro so he will surely be growing in confidence every time they wrestle. This match is also quite interesting as it pits Quack against the old and new generation of his students, as Hallowicked was one of the first graduates of the Wrestle Factory and Frightmare is one of the more recent. It also revives the Jigsaw vs. Hallowicked rivalry from 2005 in a big way. Since that time Hallowicked has renounced his rudo ways, fighting for the forces of good, but old habits die hard and you’d have to imagine that, give the chance, both Jig and Wicked would love to prove themselves to be the better man once again. Expect fast-paced flying and submissions aplenty. Blinking isn’t recommended for this one.

CHIKARA released the full and official results for night 3 of Young Lions Cup soon after the conclusion of the event, and they also announced the attendance on Twitter: 393.

8. Young Lions Cup VII Final ~ Young Lions Cup Title Match: Player Dos (18:27 ~ Super Plancha) Colin Delaney
- Player Dos becomes the 12th Young Lions Cup champion.

Dasher Hatfield now has a profile picture among other things on the CHIKARA tecnico roster page. No Vökoder on the rudo side of things, nor has anything more been noted about the mystery man who distracted Mantis and Delirious on Sunday, but the former is extremely new and the latter doesn’t have a name yet and hasn’t wrestled, so don’t expect them for a while. Plus, Carpenter Ant ahead of them in the line. The Sea Donsters are still listed as a unit but it can only be a matter of time before that gets sorted out.

Much like the Great Khali, Daizee Haze would like some competition in CHIKARA. Two words: Cody Deaner. Him or former IWA Mid-South Women’s Champion, the neon-haired wonder that is Chuck Taylor.

Marshall’s got some YLC pics here and here.

Green Ant and Soldier Ant were rocking weird new masks after the show this past Sunday. Here’s a picture of Green Ant looking kinda like Osaka Pro’s Miracleman!

The final two weekends in the 2009 CHIKARA calendar have been announced. Both will be Easton/Philadelphia weekends (on Saturday and Sunday), as has become the norm in the last year or so, and the first of the Philly shows will play host to the annual Torneo Cibernetico.

The opening round matches are complete for this year’s Young Lions Cup as just moments ago the final matches were confirmed. First, it’s a clash between a CHIKARA debutant and one of CHIKARA’s youngest lions as the pink ‘n’ black attack of Brendan Michael Thomas confronts Incoherence member Frightmare. In the other contest to round off the opening night action, Roughneck member Grizzly Redwood looks to capitalise on his momentum after tag success in Reading, but his opponent El Leonino will not be intending to give him an easy ride in his CHIKARA debut.

DogRace

HolliTrik

Moving onto night 2, the debuting and mysterious Bret Race will be taking on the Midwest’s own Yellow Dog. And finally, expect nothing more than tremendous fast-paced action as Trik Davis goes up against a man he knows very well, Shane Hollister. These men have wrestled numerous times in the past and have been compared to fellow speed style wrestlers Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. Whether they can live up to that particularly high billing is yet to be seen, but only one will advance to the second round of YLC.

Footage of the Dragon Gate USA debut show, Open the Historic Gate, has been released, showing the events following the CHIKARA tag where YAMATO and Gran Akuma beat down Jigsaw and Mike Quackenbush. That can be viewed by clicking here. As a result of that, just added to the September 6th Chicago show is a grudge tag team match between Quackenbush & Jigsaw and YAMATO & Akuma.

Hallowicked’s crazed sidekick Frightmare is the fourth entrant added into the Young Lions Cup tournament today! Considered by some fans to be a heavy favorite to make it far in the tournament despite his relative inexperience with 2009 being only his first year in action, Frightmare’s got quite the uphill battle ahead of him in his first YLC tournament. Currently his tournament experience isn’t all that great, with first round losses in both this year’s King of Trios and the NWS J-Cup tournament, but he’ll look to turn it around here with surprising showings in Easton and hopefully Philadelphia. Perhaps Frightmare will take after his mentor Hallowicked, the winner of the first Young Lions Cup tournament, and bring home the gold for Incoherence.

Our great buddy and once again Tournament of Death survivor Lyle C. Williams has finally gotten caught up with CHIKARA with his “Aniversario Yang” photos. As always, great snapshots from the best in the biz. Be sure to check them out.

Lastly, a small note from the wild world of Twitter, as UltraMantis Black has confirmed via his account – @UltraMantis – that the CHIKARA crew has touched down in Japan and are currently raiding the pachinko halls of Yokohama. They step foot in the Big Japan ring for the first time later today at this month’s “Dainichi Dash!” event; we’ll have results ASAP!

Following last night’s CHIKARA Podcast Update the second match on the upcoming Reading card will pit Hallowicked, Frightmare and Hydra up against the UnStable trio of Vin Gerard, STIGMA and Colin Delaney. Incoherence are coming off the loss of Delirious to the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple so they will be looking to show the CHIKARA fans that they are no weaker as a pair than they were as a threesome, while Hydra’s regular team with Tim Donst has put him in contention with the UnStable on many occasions. On the other side of the ring, the UnStable have had mixed fortunes recently and a win here could turn that around, as Vin Gerard’s victory in Easton over Claudio Castagnoli has been countered by STIGMA’s loss to Donst and a tag team loss to Glacier and D’Lo Brown. Both sides will want to get back on track but only one will succeed.

May’s Aniversario events, Yin and Yang, have just been released on DVD with unique cover artwork done by Dave Perillo. The DVDs can be found at Smart Mark Video by clicking here and here.

The main event for the upcoming Easton show has been confirmed, pitting one of the co-trainers of the Chikara Wrestle Factory up against a former friend and a disowned former student of the school. Since Chris Hero was vanquished from CHIKARA at the end of 2007, Claudio Castagnoli has been teaching at the Wrestle Factory alongside Mike Quackenbush, assisting in the training of many current CHIKARA stars along the way, most recently Frightmare. However, around the same time that Hero was run out of the promotion by Claudio, Vin Gerard hit the scene having just previously lost his mask and his place in the locker room in the process. Following this loss, Vin proceeded to hit out at the Wrestle Factory, directing much criticism at both Quackenbush and “Reckless Youth” Tom Carter (and to this day Vin still uses Carter’s 2K1 Bomb), none of which can sit too well with “Double C”, who himself trained at the school when he first came to America. What is quite amusing is that Vin and Claudio actually hold one point as a team, having defeated Chris Hero and Shayne Hawke when Gerard was Equinox. Nevertheless, those days are long gone and Vin will consider a win over arguably the CHIKARA “ace” crucial to retain the singles momentum many feel he has lost since he failed to win back the Young Lions Cup in January.

tagrematch

This past month in Easton 2.0 picked up a rare tag team point, overcoming Incoherence of Frightmare and Delirious thanks to the interference of Brodie Lee, despite Shane Matthews insisting otherwise in a new CHIKARA blog. Clearly slightly miffed by this “excuse” given to Incoherence, Matthews has set down a challenge for a rematch in Easton, which has been accepted by “The Nightmare Warrior” and his tiny terror of a friend, so in Easton it will be the newly-dubbed “Big Magic” and the “Wet Bandit” Jagged going up against Incoherence once again. Will Brodie decide to stick his nose into things again, will Incoherence back up their impressive performances with a win, or will 2.0 start to mount a serious challenge for Los Campeonatos?

The CHIKARA Podcast-A-Go-Go has a new opening to mark its fourth year. Featured this week are Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mike Quackenbush and the Tag World Grand Prix final from Germany.
