Just a few days ago, UltraMantis Black wrote a blog where he mentioned that him and his cronies in the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple were all set to face top competition come January’s “A Touch of Class”, and that’s what was going to prevent them from squaring off with any Brüderschaft der Kreuzes members. This was promised to be some of the stiffest competition that the Temple had ever seen, a match that was going to truly test their limits and put them in prime condition for King of Trios, whether they walked out on top or were humbled in defeat.

When we fired up the ol’ CHIKARA Fans computers today and saw the match…needless to say, we were a bit underwhelmed by the promise that Mantis had made. The return of Pelle Primeau for the first time since Young Lions Cup VI and the concussions that put him out of wrestling soon after? Surely something to be excited about. The return of Grizzly Redwood after Brodie Lee’s big boot took him out last October? Fun times. The debut of “Right Leg” Andy Ridge, who is supposed to be one of the ROH Academy’s top students in recent years? Cool! But to say this trio is one of the strongest teams that the independent scene could muster up to face the Neo-Solar Temple? A ridiculous claim. It’s clear to us that UltraMantis Black is running scared from the Brüderschaft, and it’s only a matter of time until they catch up to him.

The newest match to the final card of the CHIKARA season has been announced, and it’s one heck of an Atomico match that should be lots of fun. The ThrowbacksDasher Hatfield and Sugar Dunkerton – team up with Colony representatives Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Their opponents? The UnStable and Brodie Lee. The Big Rig is back on the highway of destruction after eliminating Grizzly Redwood from the CHIKARA roster with one swift boot to the face. Everyone in this match has something to prove to move up the ranks in 2010. We’ll see who walks out on top in 12 days.

It was also announced by CHIKARA that there will be one mystery match unannounced for both season finale cards. Who will be in those matches? Find out first here when we do our live results!

The other day, we made a promise that we’d get everyone caught up on the recent non-Cibernetico related evolutions on October’s cards in Easton and Philadelphia. Have we ever let you down? Don’t mention the failed launch of that new redesign (we’re still coming out with that, by the way, just you wait!), and let’s just go with the popular answer of “never, you love us!” Onward with the matches:

“An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” ~ October 17, 2009 in Easton, PA

While we have what’s likely our main event in the form of the Campeonatos de Parejas defense of The Colony vs. The Roughnecks, the rest of this card has unfolded in quite unique fashion. The most notable additions have seen the Super Smash Bros. competing in singles action, both with quite hefty challenges ahead of them. Young Lions Cup champion Player Dos is going to be defending his title against Incoherence’s crazed mini-demon Frightmare, who has been on quite the tear in singles competition this year. He’ll be looking to prove that his first round bounce in the YLC tournament back in August was a fluke; he already avenged his loss to Brendan Michael Thomas, and taking the cup away from the winner of said tournament would only solidify how much of a fluke that was. Meanwhile, Player Uno has been attempting to prove that he’s not playing games anymore, and has targeted the cream of the crop in CHIKARA, Claudio Castagnoli, to prove that he’s serious. This is arguably Uno’s biggest singles bout to date in CHIKARA, and while he’s had some big singles wins over top Wrestle Factory talent in the past, nothing’s been quite as big as the co-head trainer.

Also on this show, we’re going to see a singles match that’s nearly two years in the making. Jigsaw was set to take on Gran Akuma in Easton in October, a continuation of their rivalry that’s brewed to a head in 2009. However, Akuma’s injury that kept him off of the September shows was re-aggravated while on the comeback trail. When word hit the CHIKARA locker room, a certain rudo that Jigsaw has a lot of past with stepped up to the plate – STIGMA. These two have a long history with one another, dating back to their days as the much beloved ShaneSaw team. They had their problems with one another in late 2007, and since that time, Jigsaw left and returned while the former Shane Storm turned his back on the fans and joined Vin Gerard’s UnStable. These two have a lot of unsettled beef with one another, and it’s long overdue that they step in the ring to do battle one on one.

The hunt for three points never quite ends, and while it’s been some time since UltraMantis Black and Crossbones have made an attempt to add on to the one point that they gained in Japan back in June against Shadow WX and Yuichi Taniguchi, the original Order of the Neo-Solar Temple are back on the ball and looking to shoot to the top. Their opponents on October 17th, the newest Colony duo of Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Will the new hormigas be able to get the ball rolling towards a title shot against their fellow Colony members, or are Mantis and Bones going to establish dominance while Delirious is off in Japan?

“Cibernetico Incredible” ~ October 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Many expected this to be one of the big title matches coming up towards the end of the year, and while this may have a set of champions involved if Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood can snatch the belts from The Colony the night prior, this match between two rudo duos will not be for the Campeonatos de Parejas. No matter what the results of the defense is in Easton, The Osirian Portal are looking to get the ball rolling towards getting the gold back after dropping the belts in Nashua last month, and there’d be no better way to start that off than to get their first point against the Roughnecks.

Two more duos are also looking to grab up some valuable points this weekend, and they’re both quite new to the CHIKARA scene. The Badd Boys have have been flirting with the company for a while – unexpectedly showing up on one of the Big Japan dojo events hosted while CHIKARA was overseas in June – and finally made their debut in West Springfield last month when they put away Fire Ant and Green Ant. This time, the challenge is a bit different; the red hot Dasher Hatfield has been knocking wins out of the park since his debut. His search for a partner ended when a young man by the name of Sugar Dunkerton put his name out there to help Dasher on his quest for three points. It’ll be interesting to see what Dunkerton brings to the table in Philly, as this will be his CHIKARA debut.

One small change to a previously announced match – Atsuko Emoto has been pulled from the ladies’ tag in Philly and replaced with Bullfight Sora, a Big Japan women’s wrestler who has incredible similarities to Emoto. Not much to say, really.

The cry for competition has been answered – both Daizee Haze and Sara del Rey have made recent statements via CHIKARAPro.com blogs about how they feel they have been slighted for being a step above everyone else in CHIKARA. In response, CHIKARA officials called up their friends at Big Japan, and asked them for some recommendations for some ladies from Japan that can bring the level of competition that Haze and Del Rey have demanded. Our match, set for “Cibernetico Incredible” on October 18th, is Sara and CHIKARA alum La Malcriada (last seen way back at the final night of King of Trios 2007) squaring off against Daizee Haze and NEO’s Atsuko Emoto. Emoto may be better known to some diehard Joshi followers as “Bullfight Sora”, WAVE’s deadly bovine character. This match should be incredibly exciting for fans of women’s wrestling, as it’s a chance for two lesser known Japanese talents to break out in the States.

UltraMantis Black blogs about the recent happenings involving the Eye of Tyr, and the future of the Neo-Solar Temple’s relations with both Delirious and Crossbones.

Well! We take a couple of days off after the exhausting New England weekend, and the CHIKARA offices don’t cut us any slack. This update alone will hype up two new matches, a blog, a new Podcast and some more little nuggets of info. Let’s not waste time; here come the updates!

First off – new champs! The Colony have won the Campeonatos de Parejas in Nashua on Sunday, defeating the Osirian Portal in two straight falls. Wasting no time, their first defense has been signed and it’s the main event of Easton’s “An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” as Fire Ant and Soldier Ant square off against the only currently healthy duo with three points, The Roughnecks of Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood. While the Roughnecks have likely been preparing for three falls with the Portal, the ants are looking to prove that they’re not going to be one-and-done like the last tecnico team to hold the belts, the Super Smash Bros. Rumor is that, by the time you read this, the Roughnecks will have some words for the Colony in a Podcast Special Update. We’ll have that video for you here tomorrow!

While Brodie and the Grizz are going to be prepping for three falls of action in Easton, their fellow Roughneck Eddie Kingston is getting himself ready for the following night, where he’ll be taking on Big Japan’s newest rookie sensation Ryuichi Kawakami! Making his debut in December of 2008, Kawakami, a trainee of current Big Japan tag champ (and CHIKARA alum) Daisuke Sekimoto, brings a lot to the table despite being relatively new to the ring. A hype video displaying his sheer power and strength is right on the other side of this link – check it out now.

Sara del Rey has written a very interesting blog here, voicing her recent frustrations with the competition she’s been given recently. Daizee Haze recently voiced similar complaints, so perhaps something is in store for these two down the road.

The latest edition of the Podcast-a-Go-Go, featuring King of Trios 2009 action such as the Soul Touchaz vs. the UnStable and the F1RST Family vs. F.I.S.T., can be seen here

See you tomorrow with more on the latest in CHIKARA!

Yes indeed. Three more matches on the cards for the upcoming shows in just a couple of weeks!

SuperTemple

The first match added to the New England weekend will take place on the West Springfield show and sees the new Young Lions Cup Champion Player Dos return to tag team competition alongside Player Uno as the Super Smash Bros., as they will be taking on Order of the Neo-Solar Temple members Delirious and UltraMantis Black. With many seeing the SSB as being on a collision course, the Order will be intending to rebound after falling in the 4-way elimination tag at the Young Lions Cup and taking advantage of any animousity or jealousy between Uno and Dos would have to be a primary objective. However, Uno and Dos cannot be counted out as they are former Campeones and have shown in the past that they can overcome any issues to succeed as a duo.

TenManTag

Secondly, Nashua will play host to a tremendously wrestle-tastic ten-man tag featuring a number of men who’ve never even teamed before, and a couple who CHIKARA fans are just getting familiar with, as The Future Is Now members Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen and Lince Dorado will be joining forces with Dasher Hatfield, Green Ant and Carpenter Ant against Vin Gerard, STIGMA, Colin Delaney, Jagged & Shane Matthews. While Jimmy and Lince are well-versed in CHIKARA’s signature multi-man tags, having wrestled numerous trios, atomicos and even Ciberneticos in their time, their team-mates are not so experienced. This will mark Green Ant’s third match in CHIKARA and Carpenter Ant’s second, and Carpenter’s in-ring debut was a singles match. Dasher Hatfield is not much more experienced, as most of his CHIKARA matches have been singles bouts and any forays into team matches haven’t yielded much success. On the other hand, their opponents are made up of two factions – 2.0 and the UnStable – and both are extremely experienced in this sort of match. It should also be noted that Green Ant and Carpenter Ant don’t appear to have been getting on well as of late, so they can hardly be considered a cohesive Colony unit. It’ll be the leadership of Lince and Jimmy that decides whether the tecnicos sink or swim in what should be quite the exciting little match.

SolarNecks

Finally, the Order will also have a tag match in Nashua, as Delirious and Mantis will once again be looking to pick up a win, this time against Roughnecks members Eddie Kingston and Grizzly Redwood. This match is quite interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly, Grizzly Redwood is currently one half of a championship contending tag team, as Grizz and Brodie Lee await the surviving Campeones coming out of the New England weekend, and while Brodie has often treated Grizz like a “little brother”, Kingston has shown little tolerance for Redwood’s physical inadequacies, often throwing him around and using him as a weapon. It is also a “rematch” of sorts from February, as Mantis has a chance to get revenge on the Roughnecks for preventing the Order from participating in King of Trios. Not only that, but it almost revives the Incoherence vs. Roughnecks feud, although Delirious being brainwashed changes the situation just a little bit. However, the most important thing – at least from the perspective of any Order fan – has to be that a win here and a win over the Super Smash Bros. would do wonders for getting the Order a title shot in the very near future. Both of their opponents in New England have issues, with the SSB perhaps having problems with jealousy and the Roughnecks not being on the exact same page, so Mantis has to think 2 points here are at least attainable.

TurtleRedwood

Steve “The Turtle” Weiner is quite a man. Quite the charismatic character, he’s become something of a mascot for CHIKARA, particularly on the shows in the New England area, in addition to participation in events such as the 2008 Young Lions Cup. He even participated against CHIKARA competition (past and present) in the form of Jolly Roger and Hydra on the ISW US debut show. This September will be no different, as Steve will be in singles competition on the West Springfield show. His opponent was one of the participants in this year’s Young Lions Cup and is riding a wave of momentum in the tag team division, one third of the Roughnecks, Grizzly Redwood. Grizzly has been shockingly successful in singles competition, defeating the likes of Hydra and Create-A-Wrestler this year, but he’s never faced anyone quite like Steve “The Turtle” Weiner. A loss would surely earn Grizz quite the scolding from Brodie Lee and Eddie Kingston and Redwood certainly shouldn’t take “The Turtle” lightly, as even current Campeone Ophidian had a bit of trouble with him for a while in their 2008 match. It’s half-shell vs. half-pint in West Springfield!

The opening round matches are complete for this year’s Young Lions Cup as just moments ago the final matches were confirmed. First, it’s a clash between a CHIKARA debutant and one of CHIKARA’s youngest lions as the pink ‘n’ black attack of Brendan Michael Thomas confronts Incoherence member Frightmare. In the other contest to round off the opening night action, Roughneck member Grizzly Redwood looks to capitalise on his momentum after tag success in Reading, but his opponent El Leonino will not be intending to give him an easy ride in his CHIKARA debut.

DogRace

HolliTrik

Moving onto night 2, the debuting and mysterious Bret Race will be taking on the Midwest’s own Yellow Dog. And finally, expect nothing more than tremendous fast-paced action as Trik Davis goes up against a man he knows very well, Shane Hollister. These men have wrestled numerous times in the past and have been compared to fellow speed style wrestlers Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. Whether they can live up to that particularly high billing is yet to be seen, but only one will advance to the second round of YLC.

Footage of the Dragon Gate USA debut show, Open the Historic Gate, has been released, showing the events following the CHIKARA tag where YAMATO and Gran Akuma beat down Jigsaw and Mike Quackenbush. That can be viewed by clicking here. As a result of that, just added to the September 6th Chicago show is a grudge tag team match between Quackenbush & Jigsaw and YAMATO & Akuma.

There’s been lots of other fun and games over the last few days regarding the Young Lions Cup, but the main piece of news is a sad one, as last Friday the Osirian Portal of Amasis and Ophidian competed in the NCPI Tag Team Tournament in Michigan. The Portal did advance to the finals of that tournament, but unfortunately along the way Ophidian suffered a severe break to his right arm, which you can see here. Of course, this will take him out of the July 25th Dragon Gate USA debut show, which must be incredibly frustrating for such a young wrestler. He will undergo surgery next Wednesday and have a steel plate inserted into his arm to fuse the bones together. It’s not known how long exactly he will be out but the Portal’s blog assures us he will be posting an entry soon enough, so perhaps the questions will be answered! All the best to Ophidian and everyone here at the website wishes him a speedy recovery!

Relating to that tournament, several other CHIKARA young lions were in action. Create-A-Wrestler teamed with cult hero and expert microphone stand Tuck Hanson, forming Create-A-Team, and they fell in the second round, while Frightmare teamed with Klondike Kremlin but they lost at the first hurdle.

Now, onto a trifecta of Young Lions Cup additions! First of all, Hydra will be participating in the tournament once again. In years past Hydra has competed in the tournament but has never really done much, falling in opening round matches to the likes of Jon Moxley and Moscow the Communist Bovine. Next, Grizzly Redwood will be making his Young Lions Cup debut. Coming into this competition with wins over fellow young lions Hydra and Create-A-Wrestler, Grizzly may have a chance but he has not fared particularly well against others, such as Frightmare (who pinned him in January). Finally, making his debut in CHIKARA is Brendan Michael Thomas (or BMT, if you like). Bringing quite a considerable amount of charisma to the tournament, BMT should not be overlooked, as he has battled CHIKARA’s own Eddie Kingston numerous times in Connecticut. What better way to get one over on his rival than to impress on “The King of Diamond’s” home turf?

Gran Akuma has a blog up on his MySpace talking about Dragon Gate and his thoughts on wrestling on PPV.

Mascarita Dorada will also be participating on the third night of the Young Lions Cup in Philadelphia.

Many CHIKARA fans were excited when it was announced that CMLL stars Pierrothito and Mascarita Dorada would be wrestling for in Easton at the Young Lions Cup, with many assuming that they would only be working a singles match against one another. However, the stakes have been raised with the addition of two more familiar faces to their match, as Dorada will be teaming with Turbo and Pierrothito will be teaming with the legendary Jorge “Skayde” Rivera! This adds another element to the match, as Turbo is arguably Skayde’s current top student and they have clashed in CHIKARA in the past (at Aniversarioct last year), but they are both strictly tecnicos, while Mascarita Dorada and Pierrothito are separated by the tecnico/rudo divide. Whether Skayde will go over to the dark side for this match is yet to be seen, but rest assured that this match will be fast-paced and not one to miss!

Also, in a late update from last week, Cheech and Cloudy have made it well known that they’re after their third point towards championship contendership, and they’ll be going for it in Reading as they’re up against the Roughnecks of Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood. The Roughnecks come into this match with a single point after they defeated Los Ice Creams last month, and they also hold a recent win over Cheech and Cloudy after they eliminated them from this year’s King of Trios weekend tag team gauntlet match.

Aaaaand in final update for the day, another update from Friday, Ophidian has been added to the Dragon Gate USA card in Philadelphia on July 25th, completing the rudo squad for the CHIKARA showcase match. Ophidian is the other half of the current Campeones de Parejas alongside Amasis and together with various F.I.S.T. combinations the Osirian Portal have formed quite a talented foursome for past 8-man tags, so The Colony will have quite a task in picking partners to form a comparable unit.

Icarus has a new blog up claiming that Carpenter Ant is, in fact, Worker Ant.
