Today sees an addition to the Philadelphia season finale “Three-Fisted Tales”, as Helios steps into the ring with HUSTLE superstar Yujiro Kushida. Kushida, as many may know, is a lucha-oriented flyer with incredible athletic skills. He’ll be looking to use his mix of strength and speed to knock Helios down a peg and give him only his second singles loss in CHIKARA in his two year career (the first against Incognito in the finals of the 2008 Rey de Voladores tournament). While it may not read like it at first, this is a huge matchup and a big chance for both men to prove something to the other’s home promotion.

In other news, it’s official that Eddie Kingston is out for this weekend’s “Cibernetico Incredible” event in Philly, where he was scheduled to take on Big Japan’s Ryuichi Kawakami. Kingston was on the receiving end of some hellacious blows from Sami Callihan this past weekend at CZW’s “Severed Ties”, which left him with a horribly broken nose. CHIKARA reported on Twitter that King is headed under the knife to repair the injury, and as such, will miss out on the much anticipated matchup this weekend with Kawakami. A replacement will be selected for that match, which may or may not be announced ahead of time; King’s status for the November events is still unknown.

Also, some small news for that card: the seventh and final matchup for the event is going to be kept secret by the CHIKARA office until it happens. You’ll be able to see what it is if you hop on this very site on Sunday for our live results!

Oh, hey! Did you notice things look a little different around here? Hope you like it, because trust us, it was a lot of work. Enough about us, let’s talk CHIKARA…

The sixth annual Torneo Cibernetico is beginning to unfold, and the “incredibles” theme has already made things quite interesting. Only two members have been announced for each squad, but the teams see two of CHIKARA’s top tecnico squads up against one another – Campeon de Parejas Soldier Ant captains a team with “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush, while Fire Ant is the head of a team that sees him alongside Jigsaw. With six more teams set to be split amongst the two squads, it’s going to be quite interesting to see how things unfold.

Meanwhile, the night prior in Easton will see the return of Brad and Chad Badd – the Badd Boys – who made a powerful debut in West Springfield a few weeks back in manhandling Green Ant and Fire Ant. At “An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World”, they see a slightly bigger challenge as The Future is Now representatives Helios and Lince Dorado step up to the Badd Challenge. Points are in play here; who’s gonna walk out one step closer to a shot at The Colony? Find out on October 17th!

A news roundup from the past few days after not updated yesterday!

Easton will play host to the grudge match between CHIKARA Sekigun and Sea Donsters member Tim Donst and UnStable member STIGMA. Donst is out for revenge after STIGMA booted him off the apron and injured his neck back in December (the match that saw Jigsaw and Mike Quackenbush formally reunite their tag team) and since then Donst has not been able to get back at the former Shane Storm. On the last show in Reading it was STIGMA pinning Donst with his signature tombstone piledriver, and all other Sea Donsters vs. UnStable battles have gone in favour of the rudos. Donst laid down the challenge in a Podcast-A-Go-Go update, but will he be able to back up his words and finally score a decisive win over his fellow Wrestle Factory graduate?

An Atomico comes to Philly as Jigsaw leads a foursome with The Future Is Now (Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen, Helios & Lince Dorado) as they will be going head-to-head with Incoherence (Hallowicked & Frightmare), Cheech & Cloudy. The latter four do have some history, as Cheech & Cloudy have teamed with Hallowicked & Delirious in several memorable matches, and they’ve also fought many times in the past, so they would have to be considered the slight favourites. However, Jigsaw was a member of the first King of Trios-winning team and The Future Is Now had a very strong showing in this year’s tournament, so they must not be underestimated in any multi-man matches.

Smart Mark Video has released the April events, “The Bobliographon” and “Beyond the 8 Ball”. The cover for the latter is an original photograph featuring Fire Ant whereas the former is a comic book adaptation actually suggested on the board. The original cover is from “Deadpool #32″ which can be viewed here.

In a quick Dragon Gate USA-related update, WORLD-1 member BxB Hulk and Real Hazard leader YAMATO will also be participating on the July card. CHIKARA announced on their Twitter account that a DGUSA announcement will be coming up soon, which will almost certainly be an announcement regarding the participants in the CHIKARA showcase match.

A few days ago “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush announced in a blog on the CHIKARA website that he would be out of action for a period of time due to surgery on his back. In his final wish before leaving, Quack elevated his frequent sidekick from the student to the teacher and asked “The Wrestling Riddle” known as Jigsaw to act as a “mentor” figure to The Future Is Now: Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen, Lince Dorado and Helios. The third Young Lions Cup Champion has clearly accepted this challenge, as the upcoming Easton show on May 23rd will see Jig join forces with TFIN’s Dorado and Helios in a trios match. Unfortunately, their opponents will not be pushovers, as they will be up against F.I.S.T. of Gran Akuma, Icarus and Chuck Taylor, the 2009 King of Trios winners. The three will be in quite the vile zone one night prior to the big hair vs. mask match against The Colony in Philly, which could work in the favour of the tecnico trio. Will F.I.S.T.’s focus on the ants cause an upset in this match, or will CHIKARA’s most dangerous trio continue to destroy all comers en route to The Arena?

On April 26th the Osirian Portal will clash with The Future Is Now in a trios contest, but the 25th will see a preview of sorts as TFIN’s ultra high-flying “Burning Star” Helios will look to chop down the big Egyptian tree known as Escorpion Egipcio. Since landing in CHIKARA in October Escorpion has done rather well against smaller opponents – which happens to be most people – most recently dropping Lince Dorado in Easton with a Border Toss powerbomb. Helios is arguably the most emphatic of CHIKARA’s “flying squad” trio and he’ll be looking to avoid a similar fate, while Escorpion will be hoping to take out Helios and make the Portal’s job in Philly a whole lot easier.

Just a few weeks ago, The Future Is Now of Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen, Lince Dorado and Helios attained a few impressive victories in King of Trios 2009. Not only did they eliminate heavy fan-favourites Team DDT from the competition, but they defeated the Osirian Portal, Amasis, Ophidian and Escorpion Egipcio, aka the CHIKARA Campeones de Parejas and one of the more physically intimidating men on the roster. This has clearly not sat well with the Egyptian trio as a rematch has been signed for the upcoming Philly show on April 26th. Will a month’s difference change the Portal’s fortune or will TFIN continue to have their number when it comes to the trios game?

Also, remember folks, tomorrow sees the release of King of Trios 2009 on DVD at Smart Mark Video! In the first post-Revelation X update and the latest update to King of Trios 2009, another CHIKARA team has joined the field. Last night’s main event saw Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen reign supreme over his bitter rival Vin Gerard in the very first CHIKARA Ladder Match, in the process becoming the new Young Lions Cup Champion, and he will look to continue that form in King of Trios. He will be teaming with his fellow members of The Future Is Now, 2008 King of Trios Winner Lince Dorado and former Young Lions Cup Champion Helios, who are coming off a loss to F.I.S.T.’s Gran Akuma & Icarus and will be aiming to rebound with success in CHIKARA’s biggest tournament of the year.

In what may be the final match of the January 25 card, a tag team contest has been added to the card. In recent months a clear trios alliance has been formed by Lince Dorado, Jimmy Olsen and Helios, and that team has been made official as they will now be collectively known as The Future Is Now. With Jimmy attempting to win the Young Lions Cup for the first time in a ladder match against Vin Gerard, the other two members of the group, Lince and Helios, will be in tag team action. However, their opponents will not go down without a fight, as they will be facing the former Campeones de Parejas and CHIKARA’s longest-running tag team, F.I.S.T. of Gran Akuma and Icarus.

Elsewhere, The Osirian Portal have sent a message to Leonard F. Chikarason, outraged about the decision to grant Jigsaw and Mike Quackenbush a point for the December main event where Jigsaw replaced the injured Tim Donst mid-match. That can be viewed here.

In another match update to the Wallingford card, and probably one of the final updates for that particular show, a singles match has been added. On night 2 of the Global Gauntlet UltraMantis Black conceded that he had failed in his attempts to end former tag team partner Hallowicked, so in Wallingford he will look to save some face and eliminate one of Hallowicked’s more recent comrades – one third of the Golden Trio and former Young Lions Cup Champion: Helios!
