The King of Trios 2009 field is almost complete, and today’s update is arguably one of the most exciting, as the Dramatic Dream Team promotion from Japan (and perhaps the MEN’s Club from Big Japan!) has sent their own threesome, consisting of two returning favourites and one beloved and long-awaited debutant. First on the team is a man who has been making regular appearances in CHIKARA since 2005, the martial arts master known as KUDO. KUDO has much form in King of Trios, having reached the final of the first ever edition in 2007, and he also impressed in the 2006 Tag World Grand Prix where he teamed with MIKAMI. Boasting an incredible arsenal of strikes, KUDO will be looking to unleash these on the rest of the Trios field to ensure this tournament ends with a tournament victory on top of an impressive performance.
Next on the team is a man who made his CHIKARA debut just last year in the King of Trios tournament but made quite the impression, the oiliest man in professional wrestling Michael Nakazawa. Much has changed since his last appearances, as Nakazawa’s “Nuru Nuru Brothers” unit in DDT has dissolved and he has become embroiled in a bizarre feud with Danshoku Dino which actually saw the two battle at the Nakazawa home, a brawl that ended with a car exploding with Michael inside. Despite this, the badly-charred Nakazawa will be raring to go at King of Trios!
Finally, and perhaps most notably, rounding off the trio is a wrestler who was forced to pull out of a proposed CHIKARA debut in Tag World Grand Prix after suffering injuries at the hands of Akihiko Mori, but he won’t be stopped this time around, as one half of the DDT KO-D Tag Team Champions Kota Ibushi has been confirmed for King of Trios! Ibushi’s high-flying is arguably the most stunning on the planet, and the list of promotions he has worked for speaks for itself, ranging from Ring of Honor to Michinoku Pro, Pro Wrestling NOAH to Dragon Gate. However, DDT has always been his home promotion, and given the chance to both represent them Ibushi has jumped at it.
