Just a few days ago, UltraMantis Black wrote a blog where he mentioned that him and his cronies in the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple were all set to face top competition come January’s “A Touch of Class”, and that’s what was going to prevent them from squaring off with any Brüderschaft der Kreuzes members. This was promised to be some of the stiffest competition that the Temple had ever seen, a match that was going to truly test their limits and put them in prime condition for King of Trios, whether they walked out on top or were humbled in defeat.

When we fired up the ol’ CHIKARA Fans computers today and saw the match…needless to say, we were a bit underwhelmed by the promise that Mantis had made. The return of Pelle Primeau for the first time since Young Lions Cup VI and the concussions that put him out of wrestling soon after? Surely something to be excited about. The return of Grizzly Redwood after Brodie Lee’s big boot took him out last October? Fun times. The debut of “Right Leg” Andy Ridge, who is supposed to be one of the ROH Academy’s top students in recent years? Cool! But to say this trio is one of the strongest teams that the independent scene could muster up to face the Neo-Solar Temple? A ridiculous claim. It’s clear to us that UltraMantis Black is running scared from the Brüderschaft, and it’s only a matter of time until they catch up to him.

Two huge matches were announced in the past 24 hours that are huge ways to wrap up the conclusion to Season Eight of CHIKARA action. First up in Easton, Mike Quackenbush, Claudio Castagnoli and Jorge “Skayde” Rivera – the trio of CHIKARA maestros that have had hands in the training of every CHIKARA Wrestle Factory alum – are going to take on The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple’s UltraMantis Black, Crossbones and Delirious. The Temple were given this match as punishment for the huge headache that they’ve caused Leonard F. Chikarason all year, and this form of payback may be the most painful for the rudos as they’re encountering a true dream team. If they’re to pull off the huge upset victory, it would be an achievement the likes of which have never been predicted in CHIKARA in the past.

The next day in Philadelphia at “Three-Fisted Tales”, it’s a title match that co-main-evented the first event of the 2009 CHIKARA calendar year: The Colony, on the champion side this time, defend the Campeonatos de Parejas against The Osirian Portal. This is the third title match between these two this season, and the first two were memorable encounters that saw both teams take each other to the limit. It’ll be no different this time around; will the Portal regain the gold that was taken from them in Nashua back in September, or can the Colony take two of three in both the match and the series?

Also noteworthy: Sara del Rey has written a blog here, clearly outlining her frustrations with the current women’s division in CHIKARA. 2009 was supposed to be a year where she was promised the top female talent from around the world, but she steamrolled over everyone CHIKARA threw her way and has laid out an open challenge for season finale weekend. Who’s going to step up and accept? We’ll find out soon, hopefully.

The other day, we made a promise that we’d get everyone caught up on the recent non-Cibernetico related evolutions on October’s cards in Easton and Philadelphia. Have we ever let you down? Don’t mention the failed launch of that new redesign (we’re still coming out with that, by the way, just you wait!), and let’s just go with the popular answer of “never, you love us!” Onward with the matches:

“An Optimistic View of a Pessimistic World” ~ October 17, 2009 in Easton, PA

While we have what’s likely our main event in the form of the Campeonatos de Parejas defense of The Colony vs. The Roughnecks, the rest of this card has unfolded in quite unique fashion. The most notable additions have seen the Super Smash Bros. competing in singles action, both with quite hefty challenges ahead of them. Young Lions Cup champion Player Dos is going to be defending his title against Incoherence’s crazed mini-demon Frightmare, who has been on quite the tear in singles competition this year. He’ll be looking to prove that his first round bounce in the YLC tournament back in August was a fluke; he already avenged his loss to Brendan Michael Thomas, and taking the cup away from the winner of said tournament would only solidify how much of a fluke that was. Meanwhile, Player Uno has been attempting to prove that he’s not playing games anymore, and has targeted the cream of the crop in CHIKARA, Claudio Castagnoli, to prove that he’s serious. This is arguably Uno’s biggest singles bout to date in CHIKARA, and while he’s had some big singles wins over top Wrestle Factory talent in the past, nothing’s been quite as big as the co-head trainer.

Also on this show, we’re going to see a singles match that’s nearly two years in the making. Jigsaw was set to take on Gran Akuma in Easton in October, a continuation of their rivalry that’s brewed to a head in 2009. However, Akuma’s injury that kept him off of the September shows was re-aggravated while on the comeback trail. When word hit the CHIKARA locker room, a certain rudo that Jigsaw has a lot of past with stepped up to the plate – STIGMA. These two have a long history with one another, dating back to their days as the much beloved ShaneSaw team. They had their problems with one another in late 2007, and since that time, Jigsaw left and returned while the former Shane Storm turned his back on the fans and joined Vin Gerard’s UnStable. These two have a lot of unsettled beef with one another, and it’s long overdue that they step in the ring to do battle one on one.

The hunt for three points never quite ends, and while it’s been some time since UltraMantis Black and Crossbones have made an attempt to add on to the one point that they gained in Japan back in June against Shadow WX and Yuichi Taniguchi, the original Order of the Neo-Solar Temple are back on the ball and looking to shoot to the top. Their opponents on October 17th, the newest Colony duo of Green Ant and Carpenter Ant. Will the new hormigas be able to get the ball rolling towards a title shot against their fellow Colony members, or are Mantis and Bones going to establish dominance while Delirious is off in Japan?

“Cibernetico Incredible” ~ October 18, 2009 in Philadelphia, PA

Many expected this to be one of the big title matches coming up towards the end of the year, and while this may have a set of champions involved if Brodie Lee and Grizzly Redwood can snatch the belts from The Colony the night prior, this match between two rudo duos will not be for the Campeonatos de Parejas. No matter what the results of the defense is in Easton, The Osirian Portal are looking to get the ball rolling towards getting the gold back after dropping the belts in Nashua last month, and there’d be no better way to start that off than to get their first point against the Roughnecks.

Two more duos are also looking to grab up some valuable points this weekend, and they’re both quite new to the CHIKARA scene. The Badd Boys have have been flirting with the company for a while – unexpectedly showing up on one of the Big Japan dojo events hosted while CHIKARA was overseas in June – and finally made their debut in West Springfield last month when they put away Fire Ant and Green Ant. This time, the challenge is a bit different; the red hot Dasher Hatfield has been knocking wins out of the park since his debut. His search for a partner ended when a young man by the name of Sugar Dunkerton put his name out there to help Dasher on his quest for three points. It’ll be interesting to see what Dunkerton brings to the table in Philly, as this will be his CHIKARA debut.

One small change to a previously announced match – Atsuko Emoto has been pulled from the ladies’ tag in Philly and replaced with Bullfight Sora, a Big Japan women’s wrestler who has incredible similarities to Emoto. Not much to say, really.

The cry for competition has been answered – both Daizee Haze and Sara del Rey have made recent statements via CHIKARAPro.com blogs about how they feel they have been slighted for being a step above everyone else in CHIKARA. In response, CHIKARA officials called up their friends at Big Japan, and asked them for some recommendations for some ladies from Japan that can bring the level of competition that Haze and Del Rey have demanded. Our match, set for “Cibernetico Incredible” on October 18th, is Sara and CHIKARA alum La Malcriada (last seen way back at the final night of King of Trios 2007) squaring off against Daizee Haze and NEO’s Atsuko Emoto. Emoto may be better known to some diehard Joshi followers as “Bullfight Sora”, WAVE’s deadly bovine character. This match should be incredibly exciting for fans of women’s wrestling, as it’s a chance for two lesser known Japanese talents to break out in the States.

UltraMantis Black blogs about the recent happenings involving the Eye of Tyr, and the future of the Neo-Solar Temple’s relations with both Delirious and Crossbones.

Yes indeed. Three more matches on the cards for the upcoming shows in just a couple of weeks!

SuperTemple

The first match added to the New England weekend will take place on the West Springfield show and sees the new Young Lions Cup Champion Player Dos return to tag team competition alongside Player Uno as the Super Smash Bros., as they will be taking on Order of the Neo-Solar Temple members Delirious and UltraMantis Black. With many seeing the SSB as being on a collision course, the Order will be intending to rebound after falling in the 4-way elimination tag at the Young Lions Cup and taking advantage of any animousity or jealousy between Uno and Dos would have to be a primary objective. However, Uno and Dos cannot be counted out as they are former Campeones and have shown in the past that they can overcome any issues to succeed as a duo.

TenManTag

Secondly, Nashua will play host to a tremendously wrestle-tastic ten-man tag featuring a number of men who’ve never even teamed before, and a couple who CHIKARA fans are just getting familiar with, as The Future Is Now members Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen and Lince Dorado will be joining forces with Dasher Hatfield, Green Ant and Carpenter Ant against Vin Gerard, STIGMA, Colin Delaney, Jagged & Shane Matthews. While Jimmy and Lince are well-versed in CHIKARA’s signature multi-man tags, having wrestled numerous trios, atomicos and even Ciberneticos in their time, their team-mates are not so experienced. This will mark Green Ant’s third match in CHIKARA and Carpenter Ant’s second, and Carpenter’s in-ring debut was a singles match. Dasher Hatfield is not much more experienced, as most of his CHIKARA matches have been singles bouts and any forays into team matches haven’t yielded much success. On the other hand, their opponents are made up of two factions – 2.0 and the UnStable – and both are extremely experienced in this sort of match. It should also be noted that Green Ant and Carpenter Ant don’t appear to have been getting on well as of late, so they can hardly be considered a cohesive Colony unit. It’ll be the leadership of Lince and Jimmy that decides whether the tecnicos sink or swim in what should be quite the exciting little match.

SolarNecks

Finally, the Order will also have a tag match in Nashua, as Delirious and Mantis will once again be looking to pick up a win, this time against Roughnecks members Eddie Kingston and Grizzly Redwood. This match is quite interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly, Grizzly Redwood is currently one half of a championship contending tag team, as Grizz and Brodie Lee await the surviving Campeones coming out of the New England weekend, and while Brodie has often treated Grizz like a “little brother”, Kingston has shown little tolerance for Redwood’s physical inadequacies, often throwing him around and using him as a weapon. It is also a “rematch” of sorts from February, as Mantis has a chance to get revenge on the Roughnecks for preventing the Order from participating in King of Trios. Not only that, but it almost revives the Incoherence vs. Roughnecks feud, although Delirious being brainwashed changes the situation just a little bit. However, the most important thing – at least from the perspective of any Order fan – has to be that a win here and a win over the Super Smash Bros. would do wonders for getting the Order a title shot in the very near future. Both of their opponents in New England have issues, with the SSB perhaps having problems with jealousy and the Roughnecks not being on the exact same page, so Mantis has to think 2 points here are at least attainable.

SurfnLucha

As the first round announcements for this year’s Young Lions Cup draw to a close, many fans are theorising as to what the remaining matches will be. Well, if any of you predicted that KC “Cloudy” Day would be action against Chimaera, give yourself a gold star, because that’s exactly what’s going down! Like many other wrestlers on the CHIKARA roster, Cloudy did indeed participate on the Dragon Gate USA debut show, attempting to save Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw from the attacks of YAMATO and Gran Akuma, and he’s expected to go far in this tournament. However, anyone who’s done a YouTube search or two can see that Chimaera is quite the athletic high-flier so this could be quite the little battle.

FourCornersOrder

Also added to the YLC weekend is participation from the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple. For the first time in many years the Order has no representative in this year’s tournament, but they could walk out of the weekend with valuable points towards Campeonatos de Parejas contendership, as UltraMantis Black and Delirious will be taking part in the night 3 tag team 4-way elimination match. Mantis has never wrestled for the titles despite wrestling for CHIKARA since day 1, but it seems that he now has his best opportunity with Delirious doing his bidding, and May victories over both Arik Cannon and Player Uno (in a trios match) suggest that the former Incoherence member is extremely dangerous and an extremely effective weapon. As long as Mantis holds the Eye of Tyr, you have to imagine that the Order will be hard to stop.

Check out this AWESOME “Previously at CHIKARA” for July, showing a whole lot of recent feuds and angles and all that good stuff.

The latest addition to the upcoming July 31st card in Reading is arguably the biggest match on the card yet and pits two of CHIKARA’s longest-running and popular factions against each other, as Fire Ant, Soldier Ant and Green Ant of The Colony will take on The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple’s UltraMantis Black, Delirious and Crossbones. This comes hot on the heels of CHIKARA’s trip to Japan, where in the main event of the June 13th show in Shin-kiba 1st Ring, Tokyo it was Fire Ant scoring a direct pin over UltraMantis with the Beach Break. These two teams have clashed numerous times in the past in their various incarnations, but considering Mantis’ appreciation for Japan and the embarassment he suffered in Tokyo this could be one of the more heated. Not only that, but the Order are on somewhat of a roll in the United States since the addition of Delirious to the group after they overcame the Saturday Night Slam Masters at “Aniversario Yang”.

This match will also mark the “official” debut on US soil for Green Ant, who was in action on the Japan shows and actually went undefeated in his 3 “CHIKARA in Japan” matches. Whether that will transfer back to the United States remains to be seen. The involvement of three of the ants also raises the question of whether the new “Carpenter Ant” will be in Reading to support his fellow hormigas.

Claudio Castagnoli has a new promo up where he addresses the recent comments expressed by Eddie Kingston.

Hallowicked’s crazed sidekick Frightmare is the fourth entrant added into the Young Lions Cup tournament today! Considered by some fans to be a heavy favorite to make it far in the tournament despite his relative inexperience with 2009 being only his first year in action, Frightmare’s got quite the uphill battle ahead of him in his first YLC tournament. Currently his tournament experience isn’t all that great, with first round losses in both this year’s King of Trios and the NWS J-Cup tournament, but he’ll look to turn it around here with surprising showings in Easton and hopefully Philadelphia. Perhaps Frightmare will take after his mentor Hallowicked, the winner of the first Young Lions Cup tournament, and bring home the gold for Incoherence.

Our great buddy and once again Tournament of Death survivor Lyle C. Williams has finally gotten caught up with CHIKARA with his “Aniversario Yang” photos. As always, great snapshots from the best in the biz. Be sure to check them out.

Lastly, a small note from the wild world of Twitter, as UltraMantis Black has confirmed via his account – @UltraMantis – that the CHIKARA crew has touched down in Japan and are currently raiding the pachinko halls of Yokohama. They step foot in the Big Japan ring for the first time later today at this month’s “Dainichi Dash!” event; we’ll have results ASAP!

Following last night’s CHIKARA Podcast Update the second match on the upcoming Reading card will pit Hallowicked, Frightmare and Hydra up against the UnStable trio of Vin Gerard, STIGMA and Colin Delaney. Incoherence are coming off the loss of Delirious to the Order of the Neo-Solar Temple so they will be looking to show the CHIKARA fans that they are no weaker as a pair than they were as a threesome, while Hydra’s regular team with Tim Donst has put him in contention with the UnStable on many occasions. On the other side of the ring, the UnStable have had mixed fortunes recently and a win here could turn that around, as Vin Gerard’s victory in Easton over Claudio Castagnoli has been countered by STIGMA’s loss to Donst and a tag team loss to Glacier and D’Lo Brown. Both sides will want to get back on track but only one will succeed.

May’s Aniversario events, Yin and Yang, have just been released on DVD with unique cover artwork done by Dave Perillo. The DVDs can be found at Smart Mark Video by clicking here and here.

A pretty snazzy interview with UltraMantis Black can be purchased for $2.95 by clicking here. Half an hour of outstanding UMB fun!
