TFIStable

As the West Springfield card approaches completion, it’s only appropriate that the card plays host to a trios match, one of CHIKARA’s signature bouts. Despite earlier concerns following the cancellation of the Quacksaw vs. Incoherence tag match, Mike Quackenbush will indeed be in the house, teaming with Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen and Lince Dorado of The Future Is Now against the rudo triad of Chuck Taylor and UnStable members Vin Gerard and STIGMA. The issues between Quack and STIGMA have been well-documented, even though they still to this day hold 3 points and could theoretically challenge for los Campeonatos de Parejas. However, there’s a few other issues in this one. For Lince Dorado and Equinox, this is their chance to gain some payback on Chuck Taylor for him robbing them in the semi-finals of King of Trios when he fouled and pinned Helios. It also revives the TFIN vs. UnStable feud, more specifically Equinox vs. Vin Gerard, well known for their epic ladder match in January.

The Young Lions Cup DVDs are now on sale. Buy them.

A new blog by Leonard F. Chikarason announces a few things. Firstly, Nick Papgiorgio has been benched for 30 days after a couple of controversial calls this year. Furthermore, Eddie Kingston and Claudio Castagnoli will have a rematch after the abrupt finish to their match on the third night of the Young Lions Cup. And lastly, he suggests that this year’s Cibernetico may be increible-themed, as the show title implies!

Yes indeed. Three more matches on the cards for the upcoming shows in just a couple of weeks!

SuperTemple

The first match added to the New England weekend will take place on the West Springfield show and sees the new Young Lions Cup Champion Player Dos return to tag team competition alongside Player Uno as the Super Smash Bros., as they will be taking on Order of the Neo-Solar Temple members Delirious and UltraMantis Black. With many seeing the SSB as being on a collision course, the Order will be intending to rebound after falling in the 4-way elimination tag at the Young Lions Cup and taking advantage of any animousity or jealousy between Uno and Dos would have to be a primary objective. However, Uno and Dos cannot be counted out as they are former Campeones and have shown in the past that they can overcome any issues to succeed as a duo.

TenManTag

Secondly, Nashua will play host to a tremendously wrestle-tastic ten-man tag featuring a number of men who’ve never even teamed before, and a couple who CHIKARA fans are just getting familiar with, as The Future Is Now members Jimmy “Equinox” Olsen and Lince Dorado will be joining forces with Dasher Hatfield, Green Ant and Carpenter Ant against Vin Gerard, STIGMA, Colin Delaney, Jagged & Shane Matthews. While Jimmy and Lince are well-versed in CHIKARA’s signature multi-man tags, having wrestled numerous trios, atomicos and even Ciberneticos in their time, their team-mates are not so experienced. This will mark Green Ant’s third match in CHIKARA and Carpenter Ant’s second, and Carpenter’s in-ring debut was a singles match. Dasher Hatfield is not much more experienced, as most of his CHIKARA matches have been singles bouts and any forays into team matches haven’t yielded much success. On the other hand, their opponents are made up of two factions – 2.0 and the UnStable – and both are extremely experienced in this sort of match. It should also be noted that Green Ant and Carpenter Ant don’t appear to have been getting on well as of late, so they can hardly be considered a cohesive Colony unit. It’ll be the leadership of Lince and Jimmy that decides whether the tecnicos sink or swim in what should be quite the exciting little match.

SolarNecks

Finally, the Order will also have a tag match in Nashua, as Delirious and Mantis will once again be looking to pick up a win, this time against Roughnecks members Eddie Kingston and Grizzly Redwood. This match is quite interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly, Grizzly Redwood is currently one half of a championship contending tag team, as Grizz and Brodie Lee await the surviving Campeones coming out of the New England weekend, and while Brodie has often treated Grizz like a “little brother”, Kingston has shown little tolerance for Redwood’s physical inadequacies, often throwing him around and using him as a weapon. It is also a “rematch” of sorts from February, as Mantis has a chance to get revenge on the Roughnecks for preventing the Order from participating in King of Trios. Not only that, but it almost revives the Incoherence vs. Roughnecks feud, although Delirious being brainwashed changes the situation just a little bit. However, the most important thing – at least from the perspective of any Order fan – has to be that a win here and a win over the Super Smash Bros. would do wonders for getting the Order a title shot in the very near future. Both of their opponents in New England have issues, with the SSB perhaps having problems with jealousy and the Roughnecks not being on the exact same page, so Mantis has to think 2 points here are at least attainable.

fisttrios

As we move away from King of Trios, it’s only right that this particular news update opens with the above picture taken just moments after F.I.S.T. of Gran Akuma, Icarus and Chuck Taylor won the 2009 King of Trios tournament. Credit goes to CHIKARAFans friend and Hollywood sensation Lyle C. Williams!

4corners

The first match has been added to the return to the Arena in Philadelphia next month and will see a 4-Way Elimination Match between 2 Canadian teams, 3 Americans and a STIGMA. Last night at King of Trios Player Dos had the biggest match of his career as he fell in a fast-paced battle to DDT sensation Kota Ibushi in the final of the 2009 Rey de Voladores tournament. However, in April it will be back to tag action for Dos as he teams once again with Player Uno as the Super Smash Bros. The two will come into the shows with some momentum after impressive non-tournament showings this past weekend and will surely be looking towards gaining enough points to contend for Los Campeonatos, titles they once held. However, they will have to contend with a number of serious challengers.

Cheech & Cloudy failed to leave the Tag Gauntlet last night with any points but have challenged for the tag belts numerous times in the past and they will not be willing to go down without a fight. Similarly resiliant are Colin Delaney and STIGMA of the UnStable, who had an impressive run alongside Vin Gerard in King of Trios before falling in the semi-finals. This pairing is the only one of the four to have participated in the previous 4-way back in November. They failed to win in that particular match and know that a repeat performance will not go down well with Gerard.

Wrapping up the lineup is the popular 2.0 combo of Jagged and Shane Matthews, returning to CHIKARA once again. While extremely charismatic and huge favourites of the CHIKARA faithful, the win/loss record of the Canadian duo is not the best as they have never come close to qualifying for a title shot. Will this be more of the same or will they shock the world and – as they hypothetically could do – attain the 3 points they need to challenge the Portal? All of these questions will be answered on April 26!

undonster

In the latest update to the upcoming February cards, a trios match has been added to the Easton card that may have some big implications on King of Trios. Despite being quite a successful unit in CHIKARA, The UnStable of Vin Gerard, Colin Delaney and STIGMA have not been added to KOT as of this writing, and a victory for them here would make it very difficult for Leonard F. Chikarason to refuse them a spot. However, across the ring from them are three men who will not go down without a fight: The Sea Donsters (Tim Donst & Hydra) and Create-A-Wrestler.

Donst’s issue with the rudos has already been well-documented and will come to a head the night before in Reading, but this may be Donst’s time to focus on the trios tournament, as none of his team are in the competition and a win here may earn them a spot. This will especially be the case for Create-A-Wrestler, whose team with the Super Smash Bros. was eliminated from tournament contention without even being able to wrestle in a match when the SSB were forced to miss the “Revelation X” show. While this is not an official qualifier, if Donst, Hydra & CAW can pull off the victory, maybe CAW will get the spot he clearly wants?

Apologies for the lack of updates as of late, but here’s a bumper edition to hopefully make up for lost time! Hopefully that RIDICULOUS other site has given you more than enough entertainment in the meantime.

The Easton card will see a trios explosion as all three members of F.I.S.T. – Gran Akuma, Icarus and Chuck Taylor - will unite to face Ultimo Breakfast and the former Campeones de Parejas, the Super Smash Bros. of Player Uno and Player Dos. While F.I.S.T. have the trios experience, the tecnico squad are deceptively familiar with each other, considering Player Uno’s occasional team in the past with Breakfast’s alter-ego Create-A-Wrestler. This will also be Ultimo’s second shot at F.I.S.T. this year, as he was on the losing end of a trios match over Young Lions Cup weekend (with Sami Callihan and Steve Weiner as his partners).

Also added to Easton is a clash of two of CHIKARA’s more popular duos, as Jagged and Shane Matthews, aka 2.0, will wrestle the newly-surfed up KC “Cloudy” Day and Cheech Hernandez. Both teams clashed last month in Wallingford on opposite sides of an atomico match, but this time they will get their chance in a good old fashion battle for the points! This will also mark the return of 2.0 to the Pennsylvania area for the first time since a loss to Los Ice Creams last August, following appearances this year in Wallingford, Framingham and even Oberhausen, Germany.

With the earlier announcement of a Fire Ant vs. Escorpion Egipcio match, it seems only natural that Easton will see another Colony vs. Osirian Portal singles match, as Soldier Ant will have his crosshair firmly set on one half of the Campeones de Parejas, the venemous and vile Ophidian. Considering Ophidian’s recent attempts to goad the Colony into making some serious mistakes via the CHIKARAPro.com blog, Soldier will be attempting to make the serpentine grappler eat his words,

As confirmed in a video update on the CHIKARA Podcast-A-Go-Go, “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush will attempt to make his ninth successful defense of the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Title in Easton as he will face one half of the Fabulous Two and a man on quite the singles winning streak, “Superstar” Buck Hawke. These two have clashed a number of times in the past, most notably a singles contest on night 3 of the 2007 Young Lions Cup, which Quackenbush won with the Quackendriver II. Hawke will be hoping for a different result this time around when there’s championship gold on the line.

Speaking of Quackenbush, he will also be looking to settle a good old fashion grudge as well as defend a title, as he will team with his student Tim Donst in Philly to wrestle two-thirds of the UnStable, STIGMA and Colin Delaney. In September Donst and Quackenbush fought a losing battle against Vin Gerard and STIGMA in a match that saw the return of Jigsaw to save the sekigun members, and one has to wonder what role “The Wrestling Enigma” will play following the events of the Wallingford show where Quackenbush gave Jigsaw his old mask back, much to Jigsaw’s confusion.

Another grudge will play out again in Philly, as the former Campeones de Parejas, the Super Smash Bros., will look to gain a degree of revenge on those who ended that reign in record time, as Uno and Dos will face the Osirian Portal’s Ophidian and new member Escorpion Egipcio (replacing the injured Amasis). Following the title loss to Amasis and Ophidian it will be interesting to see how the Super Smash Bros. react to this match, and whether Uno will take the risk of wearing his trademark game-pad shorts again!

Philly will also be treated to a big Young Lions Cup title match, as Vin Gerard will defend the cup against a man who defeated him a couple of months ago, that being Jimmy Olsen, aka the second Equinox. Olsen is coming off some major momentum following the aforementioned win over Gerard and also a victory in the Torneo Cibernetico, but Gerard is also coming off his third successive title defence, a win over Worker Ant in Wallingford, so this one could go either way. As a note of almost no interest, victory here would put Gerard level with Hallowicked (the first champion) and Jigsaw and one behind the all-time leader Max Boyer on the list of most prolific Young Lions Cup champions.

Also debuting over the season finale weekend will be the popular Ring of Honor wrestling lumberjack Grizzly Redwood, who will be wrestling on the Philadelphia card against CHIKARA veteran “The Nightmare Warrior” Hallowicked. Bearing a slight resemblance to ROH Wrestling Academy graduate Mitch Franklin, Redwood will aim to follow in the footsteps of other ROH students such as Bobby Dempsey, Pelle Primeau, Rhett Titus, Matt Turner and Anthony Franco by impressing the CHIKARA faithful and earning a regular roster spot, although to do that he will have to take down a member of the inaugural Chikara Wrestle Factory class. There has been no word on whether or not Redwood will be in attendance for the Friday card.

Aaaaand finally, a couple of new blogs have made it up onto the CHIKARAPro.com blog. As mentioned above, Ophidian has made a recent post goading Fire Ant and Soldier Ant. With the ants right in line for a shot at Amasis and Ophidian’s Campeonatos de Parejas but unable to take that shot until Amasis has recovered from his torn ankle ligaments, Ophidian has let everyone know that 2.0 will not be on the Philadelphia card unless someone answers their open challenge, and with Fire and Soldier currently without matches for that show it appears to be a clear attempt to get the Colony to put their six points at risk. Whether this proves to be a successful session of mind games is yet to be seen. Prior to that, STIGMA had also posted an entry to preview the tag team match on the Philadelphia show, mocking Quackenbush for his poor run of form as of late against the UnStable. He also demanded their next match be a tag team match because another rudo victory would at least help him advance towards a tag team title shot.

As CHIKARA’s 2008 season wraps up, matches are steadily being added to the Season Finale weekend. Firstly, the Philadelphia card will see Larry Sweeney get his wish as he will finally be able to team with his former enemy Claudio Castagnoli to battle his former allies, the Fabulous Two of Buck Hawke and Mitch Ryder. With their past issues apparently resolved and replaced by wonderful hand-crafted t-shirts, Sweeney and Claudio will aim to both form a great championship tag team and finish things with Hawke and Ryder.

Also, the main event for the Easton card has been confirmed, as the CHIKARA Sekigun will battle the UnStable in trios action. The winner of the 2008 Torneo Cibernetico, Jimmy Olsen, will captain his team with Lince Dorado and Helios to take on the Young Lions Cup Champion Vin Gerard, STIGMA and Colin Delaney. With Jimmy’s sights set firmly on both the Young Lions Cup and revenge on his former tag team partner Colin, this match could be crucial in settling a number of scores down the line.

Finally, in site news, almost every page is up, with more features to be added very shortly. Included in recent updates are the most recent roster additions, Frightmare and Escorpion Egipcio.

Just the one match added to the cards today, but it’s a biggy. The final of Tag World Grand Prix may be a CHIKARA first, a 3-Way Elimination Match, but Wallingford has outdone them by adding a team. Yes, just added to “Armdrags to Riches” is a 4-Corner Elimination Match, involving Incoherence, Fire Ant & Soldier Ant of the Colony, Colin Delaney & STIGMA of the UnStable, and the Fabulous Two. While the situation about awarding points in this match remains unconfirmed at this point, there is a possibility that one of the teams could leave the match with a future title match against Los Campeones, although they would need to eliminate the other 3 teams themselves to get it.

What a busy Monday for the CHIKARA front office! News left and right today, let’s not waste time and get right into the thick of things!

Back on March 8th of this year, wXw held the second night of their famed “16 Carat Gold Tournament”, and in a non-tournament World of Sport Rules bout, it was a face-off of two “Masters of a Thousand Holds”: “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush took on world famous mat legend Johnny Saint in a true classic that went to a five-round draw. At the end of the bout, the two men agreed to meet again – and as fate would have it, the match is confirmed. Six rounds, World of Sport rules, Quackenbush vs Saint II on November 8th, the first night of “Tag World Grand Prix 2008″.

However, that won’t be the only representation of World of Sport that weekend, as their team for the Tag World Grand Prix tournament itself has been confirmed. Johnny Kidd and Robbie Brookside will both make their CHIKARA debuts in the tournament, as confirmed by wXw over the weekend. Who will they face off with? Will these two Golden Era legends be able to take Tag World for themselves and earn a shot at the coveted CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas titles? Find out on November 8th and 9th in Oberhausen, Germany!

Last, but certainly not least, a tag challenge has been made for the second night of the “Global Gauntlet” weekend. On October 19th in Philadelphia, The UnStable of Colin Delaney and STIGMA will be taking on the ever-popular Sea Donsters, Hydra and Tim Donst. One of these teams will walk out of the New Alhambra Arena one point closer to a tag title shot, find out which one it is by going to CHIKARAPro.com, purchasing your tickets today and attending the show live!
