The CHIKARA Gang needs your help! (Pg. 7 Update!)

If you're bouncing around in this forum, you already know that CHIKARA is chock-full of awesomeness. But as you may have discovered, the wrestling world at large has yet to discover this well-kept secret. Luckily for us, thanks to the overwhelming success of Dragon Gate USA: Enter the Dragon (that pay-per-view dilly-o!) more and more people are starting to hear about us. ...still, it is not enough to satisfy our gigantic appetite for new fans!

To remedy this situation, we are issuing the CHIKARA Sampler DVD! It will be produced, processed and shipped out by our pals at Smart Mark Video.com! Starting Monday, September 28th, through October 3rd, this 2-hour set will be offered for the low, low price of just $1.99! Why would we do such a thing? Because we're hoping to give new fans a chance to check us out, and maybe convert to the CHIKARMY!

So, this is the part where you come in. Chances are, you visit other pro-wrestling websites, news boards, forums, the works. There are loads of places out there that never cover anything related to CHIKARA, but we want every site we can find to carry news about our Sampler DVD. We need people to find out about this offer, and through it, find out that inside them was a lil' CHIKARA fan they never knew existed.

As we've discovered, when it comes to selling people on CHIKARA, few do it as sincerely and passionately as you, our totally rad fans. That's why we're appealing to you to aid us in this cause. Come Monday, we'll have an official press release posted right here in this thread for you to cut and paste to death! We'll also cook up some banners and such to spread the word, and as soon as we get the info from SMV, we'll have the direct link to order the Sampler.

And just in case you're wondering exactly what will be on this Sampler of ours, here's the rundown:

1) Mike Quackenbush, Jigsaw, Helios & Lince Dorado
vs. Hallowicked, Frightmare, Hallowickedcito & Frightmarecito [from "Aniversario Yang"]

2) Eddie Kingston vs. Claudio Castagnoli [from "Aniversario Yang"]

3) F.I.S.T. vs. The Future is Now [from "King of Trios 2009 - Night 3"]

4) Kota Ibushi vs. Jigsaw vs. El Generico vs. Nick Jackson [from "King of Trios 2009 - Night 2"]

5) The Osirian Portal vs. The Colony [from "Revelation X"]

Plus these bonus materials will round out the disc:
a) Previously at CHIKARA: September 2009 Edition
b) Official Trailer for the DVD release of "Aniversario Yang"
c) CHIKARA Podcast-A-Go-Go, Episode # 173

As ever, thanks for your support, and thanks in advance for any help you can lend our team in spreading the word about this little venture of ours.

Your pals @ CHIKARA

This is the only devoted wrestling site I go to, but I've just plugged the Sampler at my usual haunt, RPG.Net, where there's a strong interest in wrestling in their Other Media forum. Hopefully I can stir up some interest and purchases.

Cheers,

Jeremy Harper

Awesome. This is a really great idea - will this be an annual thing or a one off?

Admin on Online World of Wrestling Genesis/Forums and a few other sites, I'll plug them out on them, and Mass Email, so... hopefully that would help out.
Great deal.

Certainly a great idea, but I wonder if Chikara have thought about distributing this content as a free-per-view on youtube, or even better, hulu.com. SInce it seems like they are practically giving these matches away ($2 bucks likely just covers cost of materials/effort), and the purpose of getting these matches to as many people as possible. Indy wrestling always seems to shy away from posting matches online for free, which is still CRAZY to me as 10 years ago feds were paying big bucks for local cable companies to air a selection of their best matches to attract new fans. Granted to bootlegging aspect seems to have turned a sour eye for matches on the new, but if Chikara were to post this DVD for free, I don't see why it would cause any more trouble then there already is.

Promoted properly, I could see the various sites promoting wrestling first Free-Per-View, and with that I imagine an influx of reviews from the Meltzers and Mike Johnsons of the world. Heck, if you like DGUSA's PPV, what's not to like on this one? If you make this two hours, how would it really be any different than the pre-taped PPVs ROH and DGUSA has recently put out? I know not recently, but previously ROH had a main event from a different location from the rest of the PPV. Plus, having UltraMantis and an additional host work the bumpers inbetween matches, and the quality of these matches, I can not see that being a big hit. With Hulu it could be difficult, but possibly profitable. If not from ad sales, the attention alone would be a boost. Certainly youtube is easily done, only concern I guess would be breaking it up into sections. I could spend $200 bucks on these dvds and only get a fraction of people watching from what I could with a link. Sorry to rant, but I think it's a great idea.

TWO DOLLARS for the RdV qualifier 4-way? That's more than worth it alone, nevermind the other awesome matches on there. Dang.
